An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term (12 month) Locum Consultant post in the Haematology Department within Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre.

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest acute Trusts in the country and a major teaching and research centre for the South West.

The adult Haematology department has 16 haematology consultants who work between Bristol and Weston Hospitals based at Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre (BHOC).

The Bristol Haematology Unit offers tertiary level service for stem cell transplants, CAR T cell therapy, Haemostasis and Haemophilia, haemato-oncology, and haemoglobinopathy.

There is a strong emphasis on research with BHOC trials unit actively recruiting in over 100 trials. There are close links with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England.

The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid license to practice and should have completed Specialist Training (or equivalent) and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date in Haematology within six months of the date of interview.

This is a fulltime (10PA) Locum Consultant post in Haematology based at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS. This post is across both Bristol and Weston and will support the integration of haematology services in Bristol and Weston.

This is a locum appointment with a view to a substantive post with a specialist interest in Laboratory Haematology and Myeloid disease. The post includes Laboratory attending on a 1 in 8 basis.

The post-holder will take part in the 3 clinics per week including two Malignant haematology clinics with a myeloid focus one in Weston and one in Bristol working alongside colleagues. There is also a Myeloma clinic in Weston working alongside the Myeloma team.
In addition they will participate in a 2 week wait clinic on a rotational basis 1 in 3 or 4 weeks. Laboratory attended takes place in Bristol and involves supervision of the Laboratory SpR reporting blood films and bone marrow aspirates from Bristol and Weston, and review of Haematology outliers in Bristol.

There is also an on site laboratory in Weston where blood films are reviewed and reported.

The post holder will also contribute to an email advice and guidance service for GPs for UHBW.

In its current format the post does not have out of hours but this and acute ward attending in Bristol is negotiable.
