The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical, mechanical, and plumbing engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff.

We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Estates Officer - Electrical to join us.

You should be experienced, time served, and suitably qualified in electrical engineering maintenance, fault finding, and repairs. Ideally you will have trained to NVQ Level 4/HNC level or above.

You should also be proficient in small scale installation work on electrical services, plant and equipment. Healthcare experience would be advantageous but not essential - as full training will be given.

Flexible working and the ability to participate in an on-call rota is required.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the electrical infrastructure at FGH. This includes taking on the role of electrical LV and HV AP (Authorised Person), Ventilation AP, passenger lift AP, and being responsible for the electrical permit to work system for the site.

The role involves managing internal and external labour ensuring their compliance with HTM and H&S regulations.

To manage all electrical aspects of property maintenance for trust properties and other organisation’s properties on behalf of the Trust.

To supervise and carry out line manager duties for trade staff.

To participate in the training of junior staff and apprentices to ensure they receive work experience, upskilling, and competency based task training.

To ensure materials, technical information, and access, is available for trade staff and contractors to fulfil their duties.

To assist, and deputise for, the site Engineering Managers and Building Managers as required.

To carry out estates surveys, estates returns, manage minor project works, and assist in the monitoring of energy usage.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised craft apprenticeship or equivalent training and relevant certification.
  • NVQ3, HNC / ONC or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification Corporate membership of an appropriate body
  • Recognised H&S qualification Authorised Person for specialist NHS Plant and Equipment
  • One of the following qualifications: Certificate in Electrical Safety (Authorised Person LV AP5) Certificate in Ventilation Systems (Authorised Person)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in engineering or building services / installation in a Management position.
  • IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Healthcare experience and a thorough knowledge of HTM 01 to 08
  • A thorough knowledge of statutory and mandatory regulations
  • Financial management

Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS)

The healthcare sector is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied. Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary.
