Industrial Design Engineer

Connected Kerb is achieving significant success with our well-considered and sympathetically designed solutions. As part of the Technology Team, you will work closely with the Head of Technology & Support across our entire product line and support the team in the UK and Internationally.
This is an important strategic hire for Connected Kerb. This role will help coordinated project work within the team (10% of time) and directly own and lead the delivery of other projects (90%). The role is designed to offer technical coordination of our current near-term deliverables and offer technical skills to increase the capacity in the team working on its mid-term objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
- Primary focus will be the end-to-end ownership of specific technical projects in support to the Head of Technology Programs through all phases of the product creation process from; concept and design, manufacturing, release and performance monitoring.
- Support the coordination of all near term activities supporting the Head of Technology programs to maintain a clear delivery road map
- Lead specific project work to deliver finalised technical content (designs, changes, documentation)
- Lead the release of new or improved hardware right through to a smooth hand over with our logistics, delivery and operations teams
- Ensure quality in released technology such as the coordination of 3D SolidWorks drawings.
- Help define the product materials and material finish should be described and supported with evidence
- Support the technology team design and engineer products and assemblies that improve performance quality, reduce time to manufacture and operate.
- Write performance specifications and briefs for manufacturers and external design and engineering resources and confirm performance are achieved.
- Project manage all stakeholders to deliver quality and meet deadlines.
Requirements
Key competencies/behaviours and deliverables:
- Technical purchasing experience to advise the development of projects and their future supply base with quality assured.
- Produce products, designs and methods that directly: 1. translate into measured improvements of CK KPIs with documented evidence of performance and compliance: uptime, utilisation, resilience, compliance, operational excellence. 2, develop and deliver new products and solutions to create new market sectors and support the sales and marketing strategies.
- Deliver 3D CAD and technical drawings suitable for manufacturing that meet the performance specifications and requirements of Connected Kerb.
- Deliver product designs, products that comply with the ever-changing landscape of compliance and performance of standards, best practices and clients and user requirements.
- Liaise with CK test labs to ensure products and systems adhere to British and International Standards. Develop testing methods and designs that echo real-life scenarios to test the assumption of performance and successfully demonstrate the resilience, robustness and reliability of the CKs products and systems.
- Ensure products performs as per guidelines such as British Standard 8300 (Design of an accessible and inclusive built environment), Pass 1899 and inclusive design, IET Wiring Regulations, also known as BS 7671. These are the national standard in the UK for electrical installation and cover the safe design, installation, and testing to prevent fire and electric shocks and BS 61851-22.
- The product designs should consider the end customer journey, the CK operational staff who install and perform planned and reactive maintenance, and the assembly team in the factory.
- Help Mentor and develop the Industrial Design Engineering team at Connected Kerb
- Develop a coherent design and aesthetic language across EVCCP and new product ranges
- Liaising with suppliers to manage time, quality, cost and delivery of high performing solutions
- Be ultimately responsible for all 3D tooling and manufacturing data, instructions for manufacture and assembly, be the gatekeeper of product design and the CK brand identity
- Support the technology team in designing and developing a range of electric vehicle chargers and supporting infrastructure
- Develop methods and solutions quickly, prototype and test ideas, and engineer items that prove concepts will deliver CKs KPIs and quickly deliver these into production.
- Any other ad hoc tasks as required by the business at certain times and raised by your manager.
- Build your breadth of knowledge of other specialisms in the business such as civil engineering, coms network design and selection, electrical design, groundworks, managing and operating CK’s backend and the process of designing and managing the app.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Industrial Design/Product Design or equivalent or higher
- 6 years Industry experience in related technical field as a Product designer, Industrial Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or equivalent
- 5 years' experience using Solid Works
- Capable of demonstrating through your portfolio products that you have developed from concept to mass production utilising multiple manufacturing technologies; 3D printing (SLA, SLS & FDM), vacuum casting, wet spray and powder coating, injection moulding, casting, forging, sheet metal work and extrusion for example.
- Track record of designing and engineering products for some of the following sectors; transport, roadside, multistorey carparks, fast-moving consumer goods, electric enclosures, electronic enclosures, PCBA enclosures and electric vehicle chargers
- Conversant with Adobe Creative Cloud, Solidworks Premium (parts, assemblies, surfacing simulation and wire looms), Solidwork PLM, Solidwork Visualise and Solidworks Composer
- Must be eligible to work in the UK.
- Successful candidates will have a "self-starter" attitude with a natural ability to troubleshoot and pro-actively devise product design solutions and processes for managing product design challenges under their own steam with the support of their Line Manager.
- Successful candidate will have a demonstrable ability to build cross-functional relationships within the business, working with stakeholders across the business, ranging from sales and business development, the technology team and operations.
- Successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to mentor, coach and train junior product designers.
- Successful candidates will be able to learn new skills and engineering disciplines and fields, including electrical, mechanical, network equipment, compliance, EMC, IP, IK and harmonics.
