This is an exciting opportunity to create a vision and strategy for delivery of Professional Support and Wellbeing services to learners in London for the next few years. The Post-holder will lead a team of experienced educators and providers who also deliver multiprofessional development for educators.

Key responsibilities for the role include:
  • Providing clinical leadership to and managing the London & KSS Professional Support Team which includes the PSU and the Multi-professional Faculty Development service.
  • Enabling the postgraduate deans to deliver on their related RO and regulatory requirements.
  • Leading the development and delivery of a strategic vision for the Professional Development team which ensures the delivery of high quality professional support services for postgraduate medical and dental trainees in London, other relevant learners and their educators
  • Ensuring that the transfer of services to KSS is smooth and enables the ongoing delivery of appropriate support to learners and their educators.
  • Engaging with senior educators and trainees to promote best practice and ensure that the services provided for London meet the needs of relevant stakeholders
  • Ensuring an appropriate governance framework is in place to assure the quality of the services delivered and monitor the delivery of services within allocated budgets
  • Contributing when needed to national work on professional support and faculty development

The ideal candidate will be an experienced clinician and educator in current clinical practise.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you’ll usually need to be paid the ‘standard’ salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the ‘going rate’ for your job, whichever is higher.

As Head of Professional Development, the post holder will lead the overall management, development and organisation of the region’s professional development functions.

Professional development in London & KSS comprises of:
  1. The Professional Support Unit (PSU)provides specialist support to doctors and dentists in training, and other eligible learners, ensuring that the postgraduate deans are compliant with the Responsible Officer (RO) regulations
  2. The Multiprofessional Faculty Developmentteamprovides specialist development opportunities for educators to enhance their support for trainees which would not be available to them elsewhere and promotes multi-professional approaches to developing educators.

Professional development services in London & KSS have been centrally coordinated but the PSU function for KSS will be transferred in 2025. While focusing on postgraduate medicine and dentistry the service has also been adapted recently to align to multi-professional mandate priorities and quality objectives.
