Haybrook College Trust is seeking to recruit an energetic and inspiring Maths Teacher for our Alternative Provision in Slough. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the team of Haybrook College and make a real difference in the lives of the area’s most vulnerable young people.

We are looking for the right candidate to join our team for September 2025.

Haybrook College Trust educates young people aged 11 to 16 who have challenging and complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH) or medical needs.

We nurture, engage and educate students who face barriers to learning by providing a range of high quality educational programmes, helping to make positive changes in the lives of young people and ensuring the best possible educational outcomes.

Our aim is to help our pupils to make positive behaviour choices and become independent learners with positive futures. We also have a special school for young people with a range of social, emotional and mental health difficulties.

Working in an AP or specialist setting takes a special kind of person and is different from a mainstream school.

With an average of 8 pupils in a class and a shorter, but much more intense teaching day, it gives you the time and ability to get to know the pupils in-depth and support their needs to secure the best possible personal and educational outcomes.

The successful candidate will find this post challenging, exciting, varied and fulfilling. You will be working in our Springboard Key Stage 4 alternative provision with a range of dedicated staff who want to achieve the best possible outcomes for our cohort of young people.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Maths teacher with a passion for the subject and the ability to promote the love of learning within the Maths curriculum. You will also have a passion for SEND and for meeting the individual needs of pupils.

As a teacher of Maths, you will have knowledge of the relevant curriculum for KS3 and KS4, experience of teaching pupils with a range of vulnerabilities, challenging behaviour or SEND, and above all, have the desire and drive to see the most vulnerable young people in society succeed.

You will be an energetic, highly resilient and adaptable individual with excellent creativity and flexibility of thinking to ensure challenges are met and problems are solved. A high level of understanding of SEMH, SEND, safeguarding, equality and fairness are as important as a good sense of humour, openness and compassion; all of which will be needed in this role to support our young people through these challenging times.

The ability to communicate effectively with parents and outside agencies is essential.

About the role:

  • Working with the relevant Head of Centre and teaching colleagues, you will provide vision and drive for your subject, which will inspire and motivate young people, staff and all other members of the College community.
  • You will deliver your subjects to ensure that all the young people you teach make at least expected progress academically and towards becoming independent learners.
  • You will carry out the duties of this post in line with the remit outlined in the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document including the conditions of employment for teachers and the College policies.
This post is suitable for those with either a mainstream, AP or special school background, with a strong understanding of SEND and how to meet pupils’ needs. The post will be paid on the Main to Upper Teachers’ pay scale with additional allowances for London Fringe and SEND.

QTS preferred but we will consider an ECT or experienced unqualified teacher who demonstrates experience and passion for working with pupils with SEND.

Working with young people with a range of SEND needs is not for everyone. It takes a special kind of person to give kindness and compassion to a complex and often challenging cohort of young people. We work hard to support our staff so they can do the best possible job and find that work life balance everyone deserves.

We offer:

  • Excellent professional support from a welcoming wider team across the college
  • Regular line management support from a member of the senior leadership.
  • Additional support from an experienced central team.
  • Free access to Educational Support Partnership.
  • Highly valuable Continued Professional Development delivered by experts.
  • A thorough induction package.
  • Competitive salary.
  • Access to Teachers Pension Scheme.
  • Free flu vaccinations.
  • Access to salary sacrifice schemes for cycles, ICT/Electronics and Ikea.
  • Wellbeing days.

Interested candidates are welcome to visit the school or to have an informal conversation. Please contact Suzanne Green (Executive Head Teacher’s PA) on 01628 696075 or suzannegreen@haybrookcollege.co.uk to arrange.

Closing date: 9am, Thursday 15 May 2025 however applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and we will close applications earlier if a suitable candidate is found.

Haybrook College Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people according to child protection and safeguarding guidelines. We expect all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.

This post is classed as having a high degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. All post holders are subject to necessary pre-employment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check.

Shortlisted candidates may be subject to online searches for publicly available information.

Haybrook College Trust is committed to creating a diverse workforce. We will consider all qualified applicants for employment without regard to sex, race, religion, belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy, maternity, age, disability, marriage, or civil partnership.
