DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Strategy, Policy & Insight (Function) are trusted thought-leaders bringing expert strategy, policy, market & audience insight – challenging and advising the business to drive delivery of Channel 4’s strategy and remit.

The new centralised Audience Insights (Subfunction) purpose is to be independent thought leaders at the heart of Channel 4’s creative and commercial decision-making, bringing a single source of truth and big picture perspective, challenging and advising the business to ensure profitable business growth through the use of data.

Within the new centralised operating model where all audience and market insight in C4 is centralised into the Audience Insight team, each C-Suite Leader (CEO, Chief Content Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Revenue Officer, Chief Marketing Officer and the Exec Committee as a body) and their Senior Leaders have a dedicated Insight Business Partner (BP) who prioritizes and agrees their Insight requirements, aligned to the strategic C4 pillars.

BP Analysts directly source available analysis and where additional, bespoke research or specialised analysis is required, the BP will commission this from the relevant Specialist Lead (to be delivered by their Insight Analysts) managing jointly the presentation back of recommendations to the C-Suite or Senior Leader.

JOB PURPOSE

Working under the direction of the Reporting Manager this role is a specialist in report development and production drawing relevant data from multiple in-house data sets managed by the Technology function, and producing best in class, high quality reports to meet the needs of C-Suite and Senior Leaders across C4 and providing them and their teams with accurate and timely reports on which they can make profitable business decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Taking direction from the Reporting Manager Lead (who has agreed reporting deliverables based on the business need with the Insights BP), the role understands the relevant data sets required to build the report, uses best-in-class reporting expertise to build a fully tested, automated online dashboard or report providing clear access to the required data, for C4 Senior Leaders to make informed business decisions.
  • Typical reports (80% of the time) will be a regular daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly pattern of standardised format across a) Viewing performance against titles and genres b) product performance (if content was successfully delivered across linear and streaming platforms) and c) sales distribution performance (monitoring contractually committed service across 3rd party partner platforms eg Sky/ Amazon/ Google).
  • For additional reports (20% of the time) the Reporting Manager will prioritise new deliverables for the Report Developer to create, within the consistent, best practice frameworks set by the Reporting Manager.
  • The role will be use Tableau or Power BI or other future tools and ways to surface reports and to stay informed on new features, constantly seeking improvements in quality and accuracy of reports produced.
  • The role will be responsible for quality assuring the reports produced, for ensuring every report has a named business sponsor, conducting on-going audits on usage of reports and for recommending to the Reporting Manager when reports can be removed from the catalogue.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS / STAKEHOLDERS
  • No people responsibility and no direct financial accountability.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Proven experience in reporting with experience in complex and specialised reporting to a best-in-class standard.
  • Advanced level skills in Tableau and Power BI.
  • High level of experience and knowledge of SQL data access.
  • Good communication skills which enable clear engagement with Insight BP’s when understanding business requirements for a new report and when engaging with business users (typically below senior leader) on usage and sponsorship of existing reports.
  • Collaboration skills –proactive ability to build a collaborative environment within the insights function and with Technology (who own the data sets) and across the business to drive the best possible outcome.

Desirable:

  • MS Office especially Excel & Powerpoint.

HYBRID WORKING

From September 2023, C4 has operated a 60/40 working pattern, equating to three office days per week. Having everyone in the office three days a week gives us more opportunity to build our high performing, inclusive culture; to collaborate and to learn and share with each other, as well as helping to coordinate a regular pattern of home and office working days.

Employees then have the flexibility to decide where they spend the rest of the working week. All our offices are open five days a week.

Salary

Basic starting salary of £39,375.00 per annum, dependant on experience
