The Opportunity

We’re also is seeking to deliver further growth from its own development pipeline or though securing new acquisitions of projects and has more than 2GW consented, in planning and development.

As a Wind Technician in the Dorenell team based at our Technical Service Centre near Dufftown (AB54 4EL) every day is different and provides a real opportunity to make a difference in our ambition to help the UK achieve Net Zero.

Location; The position is based at Dorenell Wind Farm, South of Dufftown, AB54 4EL, however there will be an expectation to travel amongst our assets in the North of Scotland.

What you’ll be doing.

Reporting to your Area Manager and Lead Technician, you will carry out the day to day service, maintenance trouble shooting and fault rectification on our growing portfolio of assets. You will be expected to deliver scheduled and unscheduled maintenance services in accordance with manufacturers guidelines.

As a part of the Wind Turbine Technician Team, your typical day will start at 7:00am to check the status of turbines within the area. Any faults or issues will be reported by our 24/7/365 monitoring centre based in France. The turbine issue reported will be accessed by yourself or one of the team with the correct spares, tooling and documentation gathered.

Followed by setting to work and a Toolbox Talk for the working party.

After setting ourselves up for success with our toolbox talk, you will head out to complete any fault rectification work or planned work such as Service, Statutory compliance, HV Maintenance support, blade inspections and at times more serious work packages such as gearbox or generator replacements as and when required.

No 2 days are the same working on wind turbines and the role keeps our technicians on their toes. If you like a challenge, trouble shooting in a fast, evolving industry with Zero Harm as the core ambition then this could be the ideal job for you.

Your role will be to schedule and reactive maintenance accordance with manufacturer’s guideline in addition to:

  • Conducting daily pre-work toolbox talks.
  • Scheduling service in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines
  • Reporting on maintenance activities
  • Ensuring spare parts and consumable stock levels are maintained.
  • Fault-finding, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on all turbine systems, which will include mechanical, electrical and hydraulic assemblies and major components.
  • Proactive repairs or component replacement to prevent complete failure or system downtime.
  • Complying with all health and safety requirements including the Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSR)
  • Providing out of hours and weekend response to site breakdowns, on a rota system.
  • Provide support to site project works (Civils, High Voltage (HV), Turbine)
  • Ensuring the highest level of turbine availability

What do you need to be great at this role?

You’ll be a time served Engineer (electrical/mechanical) with a primary focus on ensuring operations and maintenance activities are undertaken to the highest levels. You’ll ideally hold a AT/AE qualification under Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSR) and have significant technical expertise gained through a blend of academic (Electrical or Mechanical HNC/HND/NVQ Level 3) and “hands on” operational environments.

  • Qualification in electrical, mechanical or hydraulic disciplines to NVQ3 level (or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience). Knowledge of wind turbine platforms would be an advantage.
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • High level of physical fitness and good health.
  • Ability to work at height and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Excellent understanding of health and safety.
  • Previous accreditation as AT/AE under the WTSR is an advantage.
  • Highly self-motivated, flexible and enthusiastic approach to working in a small team.
  • Good level of computer literacy. (Microsoft Office Suite, IFS)

You must have a full, clean UK Driving Licence, and live with a 35 mile/ 60-minute radius of our Dorenell Service Centre in Scotland.
