We are looking for a skilled administrator to join our Cancer MDT Coordinator team. Based in the new Cancer centre at Milton Keynes Hospital.

The right applicant will be expected to support multi-disciplinary cancer teams, by contributing to cancer patient tracking, scheduling, chasing, organising MDT’s and ensuring the national cancer waiting times dataset for their specialties is accurate.

The role is predominately desk based and will require use of multiple clinical systems, working with consultants, nurse specialists and other administrators while meeting weekly deadlines.

The successful candidate must be able to work using their own initiative, but also as part of a team. You will be expected to work across all tumour sites within the team providing support to MDT meetings and managing patients along the cancer pathway.

Main duties of the job
  • Work as a key member of the Cancer Services team ensuring that our cancer patient’s care and experience is central to every stage of their journey.
  • Support Cancer Leads in delivering effective, well-structured MDT.
  • Ensure accurate and timely tracking of all required data for all of their cancer patients on Somerset Cancer Regsiter, while meeting the data standards for Cancer Waiting Times, National Cancer Audit requirements and local SOPs.
  • Undertake all aspects of tracking patients to waiting time targets including escalating demand and capacity issues promptly at an early stage of the patient pathway.
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being adhered to, escalating any identified amendments to the Manager.
  • Be actively involved in continuous service improvement and developments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To actively track patient’s progress on a daily basis, throughout the patient pathway to ensure care is carried out in a timely fashion and follows escalation and PTL (Patient Tracking List) processes.
  • To ensure that all cancer referrals received by Trust are record in a timely fashion into Somerset/PTL and patients have a booked first appointment, investigation and procedure and record details on the appropriate electronic system.
  • To collect and record cancer waiting times and report potential breaches
  • To establish effective communications networks with MDT teams and actively participate in development and change to any systems to improve the patient journey and team performance.
  • To develop proficiency in using all the Trust supplied patient information systems (Ecare, Ice, Insight etc), as required by the role to ensure accurate recording of patient journey.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good general education including English minimum of 5 GCSE (Grade A to C) or equivalent.
  • Strong IT skills in relation to Microsoft packages including word/excel to NVQ level 3.
Desirable criteria
  • Typing qualification or equivalent experience
  • ECDL qualification or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently input and retrieve information on a computerised system whilst adhering to complex local and national policies and guidelines.
  • Experience of handling inbound and outbound telephone calls of a potentially sensitive nature.
  • Working in a busy environment dealing with large numbers of the queries from staff or the general public
Desirable criteria
  • Healthcare experience.
  • Experience of using video conferencing equipment.
  • Relevant secretarial/ administration experience working within a clinical environment
  • Experience of using IT/Patient data Systems.
  • Audio typing experience
  • Experience of using: E-Care, EDM, E-Referral, Winpath, PAC’s / Insight, ICE, Unisoft, Somerset Cancer Register (SCR) or similar
