Senior Rotational Pharmacy Technician (Agenda for Change Band 4 or 5 depending on experience and qualifications)
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated technician to join our strong team, delivering a high quality of service.
It is essential that you have a BTEC and/or NVQ3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent qualification, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have experience within Pharmacy practice.
We are looking for candidates who are accredited checkers although we welcome applications from people willing to undertake this qualification during employment. Ideally they should have some medicines management experience, although full training is given.There will also be the opportunity to train as an Educational Supervisor.
Please note: Candidates without the ACPT qualification will be taken on as a Band 4 Rotational Pharmacy Technician (Higher Level Trainee) until they have completed the required training and qualifications to work at a Band 5 level ideally within 1 year of employment.

Main duties of the job
The role is a split position between dispensary and medicines management and will involve working in the Main Inpatient Dispensary, and as part of the ward based Medicines Management Team.
You will be offered a variety of experience and training within each area of your rotation:
- Dispensary - Dispensing and checking prescriptions within the main Inpatient Dispensary as well as assisting with the supervision and training of new staff and providing advice to patients. Liaising with external Trust staff and covering the day to day running of the dispensary in the absence of the Lead Pharmacy Technician.
- Medicines Management Services - Working with the pharmacists at ward level, you will check patients’ own drugs, compile medicine reconciliations, initiate further supplies, counsel patients on their medicines and final check medication on discharge.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- To provide pharmaceutical services to Inpatients and Outpatients and other Hospitals and Clinics of the District from the main Inpatient Dispensary.
- To work as part of the pharmacy stores and distribution team to provide a drug top up service to 30+ wards and clinics. Accurately top up pharmaceutical stock on wards or departments as allocated.
- As part of the Medicines Management team provide technical services to a range of specialties within the Trust.
- To assist the Lead Technicians in coordinating the workflow, training and supervision of staff.
- Accurately dispense and deliver pharmaceuticals to patients from the RSCH Dispensary.
- Work towards and complete the national accredited checking qualification (ACPT) to undertake the final checking of dispensed products, if not already qualfied
- Work towards and complete the Educational Supervisor qualification (if funding available) to assess and support NVQ candidates.
- Participate in the distribution service for stock drugs and vaccines to wards and departments.
A Band 4 on a development pathway can be considered for this post. Confirmation to Band 5 will be subject to achievement of key objectives depending on person’s knowledge and experience.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services plus underpinning knowledge from BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or an equivalent accredited qualification.
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- National Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) or an equivalent qualification.
- National Accredited NVQ Assessor Scheme (A1) or an equivalent qualification.
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Experience of pharmacy practice.
- Experience dealing with the public.
- Experience of providing training.
- Experience of effective stock control.
- Experience of providing supervision.
- Experience of line managing staff.
- Hospital pharmacy experience.
- Experience within Medicines Management or completion of an appropriate accredited qualification.
