Main duties of the job
The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. The post holder will be expected to undertake the following duties:
- To provide outpatient clinic and procedure lists for inflammatory skin disease and skin cancer patients in the adult and paediatric population.
- To be an active member of the skin cancer multidisciplinary team, with regular attendance at the alternate week MDT meetings.
- To provide support, training and governance to nurses and any junior medical staff in the team. Support for local GPSI , GPs in training and students from regional hospitals is also anticipated.
- To provide a comprehensive Dermatology service, in collaboration with other Dermatologists, including inpatient care and referrals, outpatient referrals and treatment and telephone or electronic advice and guidance to local GPs.

Clinical Responsibilities- Conduct outpatient clinics for adult dermatology patients, delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
- Actively participate as a member of the Dermatology MDT, including attendance at regular MDT meetings.
- Provide a comprehensive dermatology service, including inpatient care, outpatient referrals, treatments, and electronic or telephone-based advice and guidance for local GPs.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the hospital and community to develop and enhance integrated dermatology services for patients in the region.
- Provide training, support, and governance for nurses, junior medical staff, GP trainees, and regional medical students, ensuring knowledge sharing and adherence to best practices.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of clinical protocols to ensure service excellence and patient safety.
- Actively engage in clinical audit, CPD, and research, with access to a dedicated study leave budget for appropriate professional development activities.
- Comply with annual appraisal and revalidation programmes and participate in the Trust's and CBU’s clinical governance processes, including monthly half-day sessions.
- Introduce new techniques and innovations within appropriate ethical, clinical, and audit frameworks after approval from relevant stakeholders.
- Provide support to the Lead Dermatologist in strategy development, policy implementation, and service planning as part of the Clinical Service Unit (CSU).
- Work flexibly with colleagues to achieve the hospital’s planned dermatology activity and to meet the Trust’s targets for patient care and rights.
- Assist in the cost-effective utilisation of resources, including equipment, drugs, and staffing, within budgetary constraints.
- Promote the collective aims of the CSU and Trust, contributing to high levels of patient care, operational efficiency, and teamwork.
- Maintain responsibility for personal clinical competence and undertake activities aligned with areas of expertise.
- Supervise junior staff and students to ensure safe, effective care and address any issues as they arise.
- Ensure all patients receive equal, timely, and effective care, escalating concerns when necessary.
- Support and encourage the development of personal clinical or research interests, in collaboration with the team, as appropriate.
- Stay informed of advances in dermatology and continuously enhance skills to meet evolving service requirements.
The role requires the post holder to work within the Trust’s framework for corporate governance, complying with all standing orders, financial instructions, and policies to ensure effective service delivery.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- MBChB or equivalent. MRCP or FRCS or equivalent to speciality - (UK) or equivalent. CCT or within 6 months of AAC date. Specialist registration in Dermatology, or within 6-months of completion. On Specialist Register with GMC and continue to hold a licence to practise.
