Are you READY for a new challenge? A new exciting opportunity has arisen for two additional skilled, motivated and compassionate nurses with relevant experience in caring for children with life threatening/limiting conditions.

Our established, passionate, and dedicated Children’s Palliative Care Nursing Service delivers high quality and holistic child centred care to CYP who require nursing interventions. Focus of care will be on quality of life, supporting the child/young person and family through their palliative care journey and end of life phase whilst in their own home.

We require someone who is passionate about palliative care and can make a difference to the lives of children and young people (CYP) and their family. The post holder will be required to support families to ensure all aspects of social, emotional, practical, and nursing needs are met.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will also be expected to provide professional support to the Children’s Community Nursing service and Rapid Response Teams. The Palliative Care Service works alongside other Specialist Nursing Services including Children’s Complex Care and Special School Nursing teams.

As part of the palliative care nursing team you will participate in the on call to provide end of life care to the children and young people requiring it If you have a passion for ensuring that CYP and their family are well supported at home during the palliative and terminal phase of their care and have the necessary knowledge and skills as identified in the person specification, then we would be very interested in receiving an application from you.

This role will also enable you to further enhance your leadership and management skills within a supportive and experienced team. If you are registered Children's Nurse or Adult Nurse and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to be a team player, as well as the initiative to work autonomously and effectively this could be the challenge for you.

Person specification

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • RSCN/RN Child Branch
  • ENB 998 (Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice) or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with children with life limiting/ threatening illnesses and end of life
  • Significant experience of working as a Children’s Nurse either RSCN/RN Child

Skills/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to manage team on a day to day basis in the absence of the Team Leader/Children’s Palliative Care Lead
  • Demonstrate knowledge relating to child protection issues and procedures
  • Evidence of assessment skills and use of nursing process and nurse models
  • Demonstrate sound use and application of NMC Code of Conduct and scope of professional care
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current legislative changes affecting NHS and Social Services particularly those affecting community care
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of current clinical trends and practices inclusive of evidence based practice in relation to Children’s Community Nursing and Palliative Care
  • Demonstrate individual responsibility in respect to health and safety
  • Awareness of diversity of the needs of families in relation to culture and religion
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrates understanding of family needs and expectations and a willingness to fulfil them
  • Ability to problem solve acquiring and utilising information from diverse sources to identify problems, solutions evaluating and recommending and implementing actions where appropriate
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise and evaluate care ensuring effective use of resource in relation to resource and time management
