Main duties of the job
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical leadership and deliver high-quality, family-focused care for all patients attending the Paediatric Emergency Department (PED).
- Act as Trauma Team Leader, Resus Team Leader, and Emergency Physician in Charge.
- Share knowledge to support the development of medical and nursing staff through shop-floor teaching and contribution to the PED education programme.
- Ensure safe and effective operation of the Paediatric Emergency Department and Children’s Clinical Decision Unit.
- Lead the development of standards, protocols, and systems that ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care from entry to discharge/admission.
- Drive innovation and quality improvement, working in collaboration with the wider TeamPED.

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria- MB ChB or equivalent
- Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- Applicants who are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in either Emergency Medicine or Paediatrics with a subspecialty registration in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants who are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
- FRCEM or MRCPCH or equivalent
- MD, PhD or other higher degree
Teaching and Audit
Essential criteria- Experience of Audit
- Teaching of junior medical staff
- Teaching of medical students
- Experience of supervision of ST1 level trainees including workplace-based assessment and MSF
- Trained Clinical Supervisor
- Trained Educational Supervisor
Academic Achievements and Research
Desirable criteria- Publications in recognised Clinical Journals
- Specialist interest in areas complementary to other consultants in the departments
- Research projects relating to the specialist area
