Financial Controller

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join our client’s team in the Stoke-on-Trent area. This is a key role overseeing the accounting operations and supporting the business with financial strategy.

Key Responsibilities of this Financial Controller role:

  • Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Manage the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and management information, with support from the management accountant.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory law and financial regulations, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies, maintaining internal controls and ensuring financial systems are optimized.
  • Lead and supervise the financial department team, managing the audit process and collaborating with external auditors.
  • Work closely with the CFO to support the business with financial strategy and decision-making.

Skills and Competencies required of this Financial Controller role:

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a finance team.
  • Exceptional communication skills, able to explain complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills, able to interpret financial data, identify trends, and solve problems effectively.
  • Impeccable attention to detail, ensuring high accuracy in financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software, with experience in accounting software and financial management systems. Experience with SAP Business One is highly desirable.
  • Strong business acumen, understanding the broader business context and how financial decisions impact the company.
  • Adaptability to changing financial regulations and business environments.
  • Excellent decision-making skills, contributing to the overall financial health and success of the organisation.
  • ACA or ACCA fully qualified, or equivalent level qualifications will be considered.
  • Several years of post-qualification experience in a similar role.
  • Professional understanding of UK GAAP. Knowledge of IFRS is advantageous.

Details of this Financial Controller role:

  • Competitive salary of £55,000 - £60,000.
  • Location: Stoke-on-Trent
  • Monday to Friday 9am-5pm
