Job overview

Cwm Taf Morgannwg are looking for an experienced Pharmacist to lead, manage and develop the Pharmacy clinical trials service. You will ensure an efficient, effective and safe service is provided for those particpating in the clinical trials and provide pharmaceutical advice and support to healthcare professionals in relation to appropriate clinical trials.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Pharmacist to join an innovative and progressive team. You will have significant experience as a GPhC registered pharmacist across clinical and operational areas of pharmacy practice, along with service evaluation and audit expeirence.

Main duties of the job
  • Lead and manage the clinical trials service provided from Pharmacy to all users across CTMUHB, and work as part of multi-disciplinary research team with clinicians, research teams, Research & Innovation (R&I) office and Pharmacy colleagues
  • Lead the Clinical Trials Pharmacy Team; this includes managing and co-ordinating a team of pharmacy technicians and assistants including recruitment, appraisal, discipline and personal development.
  • Manage and monitor the budgetary impact of clinical trials within the pharmacy department by ensuring income and expenditure is identified, secured and monitored.
  • In liaison with the UHB Education Training Lead Pharmacist participate in the training, supervision and development of pharmacy staff, and other healthcare staff, involved with providing pharmaceutical services to clinical trial patients.
  • Participate in the clinical trial training and supervision of general Pharmacy staff.
  • Lead on ensuring pharmacy staff receive and maintain appropriate clinical trials training, national and local standards respectively, such as the development of training packages.
  • Supervise and educate other staff within and outside of the pharmacy clinical trials team to ensure trial are being conducted safely and timely to protect the interest of patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To lead on the Pharmacy governance aspects of clinical trials in line with international (ICH-GCP, GMP) and national legislations [UK Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations].
  • Actively lead and contribute as a member of the pharmacy department leadership team and research department to ensure continuous communication to maintain high standards of trial medicines use within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB).
  • Develop and deliver the UHB’s research portfolio, lead the stimulation and coordination of pharmacy practice research activity across the department, ensuring support, governance, and quality.
  • Manage the pharmacy clinical trial service budget, including contribution to the development of guidelines and policies relating to pharmacy research across CTMUHB.

  • Postgraduate qualification in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Significant experience as a General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Registered Pharmacist.
  • Knowledge of medicine regulation and national guidelines.

  • Broad experience within both clinical and operational areas of pharmacy practice.
  • Experience of managing errors and project risk assessment.

  • Knowledge of electronic prescribing system such as ARIA, Sunrise EPMA
