This role involves teaching secondary school-aged students (11-16 years old).

Position Details:
Salary: £25'300 - £39'300 per annum, M1 - UPS3
Hours: 32 hours per week, Term Time Only, 4 Days per week

About the Role:
As an SEN English Teacher, you will deliver high-quality teaching and learning to young people aged 11-16 with social and emotional difficulties, anxiety disorders, and mental health needs. You will focus on increasing academic and vocational qualifications and knowledge, while fostering independent living skills that will prepare students for further education, training, or work.

Our students may present with challenging behaviours, and you will also be required to teach a second subject.

Key Responsibilities: Develop and deliver the curriculum, considering the educational, physical, and social needs of the students.

Collaborate with other staff members as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Use short-, medium-, and long-term plans to deliver the curriculum effectively.
Set, monitor, and review personalized targets to optimize individual learning.
Participate in the review of Statements and EHC plans, PEP, and LAC reviews.
Structure lessons to maintain pace, motivation, and challenge.
Assist in developing the curriculum offer and stay informed about current issues in autism education.
Manage a delegated budget as required.
Candidate Qualities:
Essential: PGCE, QTS, QTLS teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training.
Ability to teach Entry level 2 & 3, Functional Skills Level 1 & 2, and GCSEs in English and another subject to GCSE Level.

Desirable: Experience in a school environment, ideally in specialist education.

Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Strong teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Effective skills in planning, preparation, recording, and reviewing students’ progress.
Good IT skills and understanding of how IT can support learning.
Ability to remain calm and reflective in a challenging environment.
Proven ability to work independently, be well-organized, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
Ability to engage students in positive and enabling relationships.

Successful applicants will be subject to pre-employment safeguarding checks, including an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, allowing us to ask applicants to declare all convictions and cautions, including those which are "spent" unless protected under DBS filtering rules.
