Location: Reading, West Berkshire – hybrid working

We are looking for a Principal Procurement Manager to lead and execute Category Management, Strategic Sourcing, and Supplier Relationship Management for a diverse range of categories. The goal is to leverage and secure the organisation’s supplier base to meet current and future business needs while mitigating risks.

The Principal Procurement Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end performance of category groups and managing multimillion-pound procurements effectively.

The ideal candidate will possess asset management expertise, portfolio planning experience, and a strong background in working within a Public Sector Commercial Team. They should be well-versed in managing the procurement process and driving strategic outcomes within a complex public sector environment.

Key Accountabilities:

Develop, implement and drive Category Strategy for a complex group of categories
Oversee the execution of the end to end strategic sourcing process for all complex and high value Procurements

Ensure Supplier Relationship Management for key suppliers who have a significant impact on the organisation’s business, with the objective of managing risk, managing performance and extracting more value from the supplier base

Develop and sign off Supplier Strategies

Act as Sourcing Business Partner for certain areas of the business and be accountable for the Sourcing contribution (including efficiencies and risk mitigation)
Use category expertise and external markets insights, to proactively propose alternative or innovative 3rd party solutions to senior and executive level stakeholders to anticipate issues before they arise
Develop the Category Team and drive a high-performance culture: secure competence development within the team, manage performance in accordance with clear goals and manage team motivation to support Supply Chain Management transformation

Drive Supply Chain Management transformation: continuously and consistently focus the team performance to delight stakeholders and improve Supply Chain Management profile as “Trusted Advisor” to the business.

Key requirements:

Experience of working in a Public Sector Commercial Team and managing the procurement process
Experience of contract regulations, negotiating contracts and/or managing contracts and suppliers
Experience of working as an effective team member and able to develop effective relationships with key stakeholders
Portfolio planning
Asset management knowledge/experience

Knowledge of Procurement reform act (desirable)
