This is a Specially Commissioned Service covering the South West of England.

Main duties of the job

As the Band 7 Ward Lead you will take the key role in the management and leadership of the nursing team providing specialist nursing care in the total management of patients paralysed following spinal cord injury or non-progressive spinal cord disease.
Continually looking for new and innovative ways of improving the ward and the patient’s experience enabling individual patients to optimise their physical and psychological ability to achieve independence appropriate to their level of disability within your agreed budget.
As a registered, accountable and autonomous nurse you will act in the best interests of your patients at all times and take personal responsibility for your actions and decisions. You will be responsible for patient assessment, planning of care, giving and supervising safe and compassionate care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care.
As the ward leader you will be responsible for your workforce plan, annual skill mix review, service development plan and budget management. In collaboration with the Spinal Education Lead you will be responsible for the learning and development of all staff and students within the ward with a strong focus on the development of practical requirements of delivering compassionate and competent care.

You will demonstrate strong leadership qualities that constantly reinforce the Trust values and beliefs.

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registration Adult
  • 2 years leadership or management experience at Band 6
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification in spinal, neuro or rehabilitation nursing
  • Experience in spinal, neuro or rehabilitation nursing
