Charity People is delighted to be partnering with a human rights organisation to recruit their next Head of Digital. Providing specialist psychological therapy to asylum seekers and refugees who have survived torture and working with survivors to campaign together for change, the organisation is a key voice in raising awareness and influencing key decision-makers about torture and its impact.

Head of Digital
Contract: Permanent, full time role with flexible working options including part time (four days per week) and condensed hour options available
Salary: £54,086 per annum
Location: Hybrid - home based with ideally two days per week at the London office in Finsbury Park
Benefits: generous 30-day annual leave entitlement, and 6% employer pension contribution (minimum 1% employee contribution)

Joining as Head of Digital you will lead the charity's digital engagement programme to drive growth in income, activism and awareness, as well as an organisational wide digital transformation programme where you will support an integrated approach across communications, fundraising and influencing.

A pivotal role within the organisation you will work closely with colleagues across Fundraising and Communications, Survivor Leadership & Influencing and Clinical Services as well as with the SMT and will drive innovation to ensure digital activity is optimised to support an ambitious organisational strategy.

Key responsibilities within the role include:

  • Implementation of the charity's digital engagement strategy, using insight and analysis to set and measure appropriate KPIs to monitor success of strategy and drive testing and innovation
  • Overall responsibility for the organisation's social media strategy; working closely with the Digital Engagement and Campaigns Manager you will provide support and guidance to ensure that campaigns are effective and impactful
  • Work closely will colleagues across the Fundraising and Communications team and the Advocacy and Campaigns team to deliver an engaging package of social media activities that reflect the breadth of the organisation's work
  • Have overall responsibility for an annual digital income of circa £500k including oversight of developing and implementing digital fundraising plans (organic and paid) across all digital channels, working closely with the Digital Fundraising Manager
  • Responsible for ensuring that the organisation's website and wider digital products support the delivery of organisational strategy including driving fundraising growth, movement building and survivor empowerment
  • Lead on the organisation's journey towards digital maturity including working with colleagues within ICT, Finance, SMT and stakeholders from across the charity to ensure that digital solutions are embedded across all elements of strategic delivery
  • Provide leadership to a high performing team of digital experts - you will lead a team of five in total including three direct reports
  • Annual budget development and development and delivery of operational plans across all digital activities

We would love to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of digital marketing, mobilisation, social media and website development
  • Proven experience in delivering growth in digital income and audiences, ideally in a fundraising environment
  • Substantial experience of successfully leading and managing staff, including managers, with expertise in overseeing others' development around digital mobilisation and engagement, and proven ability to coach people to success
  • Strong track record of leading and managing integrated multi-channel strategies (email, social, PPC, offline) to mobilise the public, win campaigns, grow income, and engage broad audiences
  • Extensive experience of website management, UX, digital analytics and digital content development
  • Experience of budget management and financial planning

We're particularly interested to receive applications from candidates who have the below, although this is in no way essential:

  • Lived experience of torture or asylum and migration
  • Experience working with and on behalf of people with lived experience
  • Knowledge of human rights and issues affecting refugees and torture survivors

The charity is committed to showing the salary for all advertised roles and not negotiating salaries for roles, in light of evidence that this contributes to structural inequality.

The organisation's policy is that all appointments will be at the start of the salary range but successful candidates will have the opportunity to move up the scale over time. The progression up the salary range is reviewed on an annual basis and subject to affordability.

For this role, the salary range is £54,086 to £62,740 (including London Weighting).
