The following are the primary core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: a. Undertake new patient health checks. b. Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes.
c. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately. d. Facilitate routine home machine BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly. e. Nurses phone in- advising patients of test results.
f. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required and within trained competencies. g. Support the practice nurses with the management of chronic disease clinics. h. Carry out BMI checks as directed. i. Act as a chaperone as required. j. Undertake venepuncture, attend training.
k. Administer flu, covid, pneumococcal and shingles within trained competencies and attend training update courses where required. l. Carry out ECGs as requested. m. Urinalysis n. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
o. Deliver smoking cessation clinics and attend the training if required. p. Dopplar's q. Provide support during minor operations and medicals as required. r. Following agreed clinical protocols with referrals to the GP's s. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked, clean and tidy and prepared for each session, maintaining and cleaning equipment used by nurses & GP's.
t. Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance, recording and monitoring of fridge temperatures. u. Ordering stock from suppliers when required, stock checks. v. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy.
w. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate. x. Partake in mandatory eLearning and face to face training. In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Healthcare Assistant may be requested to: Participate in practice audit as directed by management.
Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care. Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation. Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota when required. Attendance of practice meetings, significant event meetings and staff training events.

Co-operate with annual appraisal meetings and interim performance reviews. All staff will receive safeguarding training relevant to their role which is provided by both the practice and external safeguarding professionals. All new staff will be reminded during their induction training program, and subsequent training updates, of their personal, moral and legal roles and responsibilities concerning safeguarding.
