The Role As a Rotational Pharmacy Technician, you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and efficient pharmaceutical services within our hospital. This is a varied and exciting role, involving dispensing and accuracy checking of prescriptions, technical ward services, aseptic preparation, and stock management.
You will also support the training and supervision of junior staff and students. Key Responsibilities Dispensing & Accuracy Checking: Safely dispense and issue prescriptions, including complex paediatric prescriptions, controlled drugs, and unlicensed medicines.
Carry out final accuracy checks on clinically screened prescriptions. Ward-Based Pharmacy Services: Provide medicines management support to wards, ensuring stock is maintained, supporting patient medication reviews, and reconciling medicines on admission.
Aseptic and Extemporaneous Preparation: Participate in the preparation of sterile and non-sterile medicines, including intravenous injections, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), and cytotoxic reconstitution. Stock Control & Medicines Supply: Ensure the efficient supply of medicines to wards and departments, using automated drug storage systems where applicable.
Maintain and supervise stock control systems, ensuring compliance with policies. Patient Support & Counselling: Provide clear and concise advice to patients and carers regarding their medicines to ensure understanding and compliance. Training & Supervision: Support and deliver training for student pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants, and pre-registration pharmacists.
Specials Service Coordination: Organise and supervise the delivery of the hospitals specials service, liaising with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals to ensure timely medicine delivery. Clinical Trials & Safety Monitoring: Participate in the dispensing of clinical trial medications and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.
What We Are Looking For We are seeking a motivated and organised Pharmacy Technician with a strong commitment to patient care and professional development.
