A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Health Care Assistant to join our cancer Centre at Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will work within the Cancer centre mainly within the Macmillan suite and outpatient department alongside registered Nurses and the multidisciplinary team members to help provide a high-quality care for all our patients.

The main elements of the post are to assist and support nursing team with both nursing and non-nursing duties, to enable them to care for Haematology and Oncology Day cases and Outpatients.

This rapidly expanding modern and busy centre offers many training opportunities for their staff, recent developments have led to the opening of the Cancer centre onsite. This developing service is supported by a forward thinking & supportive Management Team, Nurse Practitioners, Palliative Care Team & Macmillan Information and Support Centre.

This unit is recognised for its high standard of environment & patient care having been awarded the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark in 2021.

We firmly believe in holistic care, complementary therapy, clinical psychology and Citizen Advice Bureau all have clinics in the unit. We also offer carers and patient support groups.

To ensure smooth running of theCancer centre andHaematology Outpatient Clinics.

To assist and support nursing team with both nursing and non-nursing duties, to enable them to care for Haematology and Oncology Day cases and Outpatients.

To support the receptionists with clerical and reception duties.

We are looking for dedicated and passionate individuals who not only strive to meet all the needs of patients in our care but will work as part of the team to achieve this. As part of the post, you may be required to work shifts and flexibility is required.

There will be training given to develop skills and knowledge within cancer nursing.

  • Participating in the set up and organisationof the cancer centre andHaematology outpatient clinic work to ensure smooth and efficient running of the clinics. To be able to work independently within the clinic setting with supervision available from MDT members.
  • Understand and assist in the scheduling and ringing of patients to confirm appointment times providing additional administration support to reception as required
  • Covering outpatient reception as required, taking all reception administration tasks, checking in and out of patient appointments, scheduling and taking calls, liaising with outpatient and day case area on patient appointments
  • Performing phlebotomy, blood pressures, pulse, temperature, respirations, and Oxygen saturations.
  • Act as a chaperone when requested, recognising patients and family’s needs through verbal and non-verbal cues. Supporting patients with both physical and mental disabilities adapting to meet requirements, providing clear communication needs to the team as required.
