Salary: UH7 £37,999pa with potential to progress to £45,163pa by annual increments
Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Research Fellow will be actively involved in supporting the Principal Investigator in achieving the project's milestones, ensuring its progress aligns with planned objectives. Attendance at project meetings, as required, will be essential for collaboration and alignment with the team and stakeholders.

A key focus of the role is the development of computer graphics software and immersive technology solutions, which will form the foundation of the project’s innovative outputs. Additionally, the role includes acquiring images, videos, and data to enable extended reality viewing, a critical component of the project's objectives.

Beyond technical tasks, the role also involves contributing to the design and organization of the R&D project, ensuring its smooth execution. Administrative assistance will be required to support project operations, along with tasks like collating and writing publications, project reports, and working papers, ensuring that the research outputs are well-documented and disseminated effectively.

This multifaceted role combines technical development, organizational input, and scholarly contributions, all aimed at advancing the project's goals.

Skills and experience required

The successful candidate will bring significant experience in graphic software development and will be highly proficient in computer programming languages, including C#. Ideally, they will possess in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in managing extended reality systems and developing software projects, with a proven ability to translate specialised, innovative ideas into functional code using platforms like Unity.

They will be adept at organizing their research activities to meet deadlines and maintain high-quality standards, demonstrating strong self-motivation and the ability to handle complex problems requiring advanced knowledge. Collaboration comes naturally to them, supported by excellent interpersonal skills

Ideally, they will have technical expertise that extends to writing up research results for publication in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals, with excellent IT skills being essential for this role. Additional knowledge in AI/ML frameworks to enhance their technical repertoire is desirable.

Qualifications required

Educated with an undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent qualification) in Computer Science/Engineering or in a relevant subject area.

A PhD (or equivalent qualification) in Computer Science/Engineering, or close to completion of PhD (no more than 3 months prior to viva) in a relevant subject area, or equivalent experience, is desirable.
