Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Medical PA within the General Surgery department based at Colchester Hospital.

We currently have two positions available; 1x Full Time - 37.5 Hours Per Week

1x Part Time - 22.5 Hours Per Week

This is a key role for the division. We are looking for a dynamic, flexible and enthusiastic team player to integrate with the current team and

provide an efficient and effective secretarial and administrative support to the clinicians, patients & other team members.

The ideal candidate will have attention to detail, have excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritise and plan. You must be able to work using your own initiative and be flexible to work where the need is greatest.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will provide efficient and pro-active secretarial and admin support to the large team of busy consultants and other team members.
You will be the first contact for patients and queries on behalf of the Consultants and Department. You will work as part of a team, supporting

other team members and covering when required.

Skills required for the post include: good typing and audio skills, the ability to prioritise tasks, effective time management skills, good IT and

secretarial skills, good communication, interpersonal and organisation skills, and a good team member.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Medical Secretarial practices.
  • Audio typing qualification.
  • GCSE’s A to C or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • Word processing to RSA III or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • AMSPAR Diploma or equivalent.
  • Shorthand/speedwriting.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven previous experience as a medical secretary or medical administrator

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Hospital PAS system.
  • Understand requirements for strict confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of Digital Dictation system
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Access Policy and 18 Weeks
