Children's Specialist Community Occupational Therapist

This post offers a wonderful opportunity for an experienced Band 6 Children’s Occupational Therapist to join an existing and very well established multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians and support staff delivering services to children & young people in the community of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The post holder will work with children who have neuro-disability, developmental delay, motor and/ or sensory difficulties in community settings.
The post holder must have the ability to travel independently with unrestricted access to a car insured for business purposes. Due to the nature of Community work, the post holder will be required to work in a variety of locations such as centrally in clinics, in mainstream and specialist provisions in the community and hybrid working will be required.
This is a permanent post, working 22.5 hours per week
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, advice and support to children and young people and their families with the complex physical developmental and learning needs.
To work in partnership with children, their families, teachers and carers to develop and deliver treatment interventions and management programmes to target the individual needs of the patients referred to the service.
To actively work in conjunction with the colleagues in the health community, Education Authority, Social Care and other partnership agencies to deliver seamless co-ordinated care to patients and their families and disseminate knowledge and facilitate a better understanding of disorders of movement impairment.
To contribute to differential diagnoses for children on their caseload.
Working with children with neurodevelopmental conditions over a variety of settings in the community. Delivering ongoing assessments and therapy Health Care Plans.
The post holder will have experience of and confidence to present training courses to education and parents this could be delivered face to face or virtually.The post holder will be required to co-ordinate and deliver group work treatment and therefore experience of this would be desirable.
The Children's Community Therapy team is a dynamic innovate MDT of Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Dietitians, support and clerical staff.

Person specification
Essential
Essential criteria- Comprehensive post registration experience
- Registration with Health Care Professions Council
- Degree in occupational therapy or equivalent
- Evidence of self-directed continuing professional development as required by the HCPC
- Experience of managing a complex case load
- Relevant postgraduate qualification eg. Ayes Sensory Integration Module One, Bobath Neurodevelopmental Treatment Approach
- Fieldwork educator / Clinical placement supervisor
Experience
Essential criteria- Extensive Post Graduate clinical experience in Occupational Therapy.
- Experience of working with children and young people with complex conditions and needs, including community-based work
- Experience of using high level communication skills within a wide range of clinical settings
- Experience of teaching skills and identifying learning needs; designing and delivering education and training; and use of a wide variety of media
- Experience of participation in audit and research projects.
Practical & Interlectual Skills
Essential criteria- Knowledge of current neuro-developmental paediatrics, assessment tools, treatment, interventions and outcome measures.
- Skilled in time management skills, working flexibly either autonomously or as part of a team
- Able to work in highly stressful, distressing and highly emotive situations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- To have experience of the specialist assessment, equipment adjustment and training
- Well-developed knowledge of sensory integration theory and its’ impact on participation and function
- Experience of participation in audit and research projects.

- Recognises clinical and professional limitations.
- Approachable. Commitment to the concept/practice of holistic patient care
- To work in community settings which may include unhygienic domestic conditions and exposure to bodily fluids
