We also support MRI, Ultrasound and Lasers, so an interest in this area would be advantageous though not a requirement for the post. Anyone wishing to keep their skills and knowledge up to date in this field would be supported and encouraged to do so.
The ideal candidate will be a HCPC registered clinical scientist and hold RPA2000 certification to act as an MPE and RPA in the diagnostic radiology, although applications from those holding only one certificate are encouraged as support for attainment of the other will be provided.
Candidates who are not certified MPE or RPA but who are demonstrably close to being able to submit their portfolio for either may be considered for appointment to a lower band, initially.

- Provide day to day management / target setting of appropriate junior Medical Physics staff and Health Education England trainees (STPs and PTPs).
- Contribute to the business planning process of the department.
- Lead in the development of radiation protection and quality assurance of radiography.
- To act as Lead MPE for research and ethics applications
- To supervise MPEs in their roles as modality leads
- To assist lead RPA and act as deputy RPA when head of Radiology Physics is unavailable

Recruiting Managers interviewing for this role will be happy to answer any specific questions that you have about this at interview.- Assess the radiation protection and imaging performance aspects of all new radiological imaging equipment, as part of the commissioning process.
- Evaluate the long term performance of highly complex radiological imaging equipment such as CT scanners.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of radiographic equipment and radiographic techniques throughout the district in so far as they affect radiation dose and / or image quality.
- Monitor & advise on the QC programmes of various clients.
- Lead in regular audits of radiation doses to patients and assist in setting local Diagnostic Reference Levels, as required by The Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations.
- To participate in utilising the Dorset dose management system (DMS) to analyse radiation doses from routine clinical radiology and to take a lead in appropriate optimisation work through multi-disciplinary teams.
- To lead in incidences investigations advising on CQC/HSE notification requirements and assisting in investigations where appropriate.
