South West London | Hybrid Working | £45,000 - £55,000

Robertson Bell is proud to be working with a large, well-established public sector organisation to recruit an Internal Auditor on a permanent basis. Based in South West London with excellent hybrid working arrangements, this role offers the chance to lead on critical assurance and governance work across a multi-site organisation, while gaining exposure to senior stakeholders and strategic decision-making.

With a strong focus on internal improvement and transformation, they're looking for high-calibre individuals who want to be part of a forward-thinking internal audit function, delivering real value across multiple services.

About the Role

Working closely with the Audit Manager and senior leadership, this is a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, risk-based audits across a varied portfolio. You'll assist in shaping the strategic audit plan and may also lead on key thematic areas such as ICT, procurement, or contracts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the delivery of the strategic and operational audit plan
  • Leading on complex audit assignments and project reviews
  • Producing clear, insightful reports for senior stakeholders and audit committees
  • Advising officers on internal control, governance, and risk management
  • Supervising audit staff and deputising for Audit Managers where required
  • Acting as a subject matter expert in designated specialisms and supporting change initiatives

About You

We're looking for an experienced internal audit professional with a strong understanding of public sector governance and assurance requirements. You'll need:

  • Exposure to internal audit experience, ideally within the public sector eg. Local Government, Central Government, NHS, Education, Social Housing and Charity
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff and managing competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage at all levels
  • A part-qualified or fully qualified
  • Analytical and investigative skills, along with a strong ethical foundation
