I am working with a top tier pensions specialist law firm on a professional support lawyer role. The firm is made up of 115 people, including 70 lawyers. The are a leading law firm for workplace pension schemes, advising trustees, employers, providers and corporate investors.They work exclusively in the pensions and retirement savings industry, advising on all aspects of defined benefit, defined contribution and hybrid pension arrangements, including funding and investment, managing liabilities, corporate support, disputes, governance, risk and operations, transfers, data protection and tax issues.
Your new role
This will be a 10 month (maternity cover) FTC role as part of the firms Know-How team. The team is made up of 4 know-how lawyers. The focus of the role will be to assist the Know-How team with the creation, development and management of the firm's internal and external knowledge resources and in providing day-to-day support to the fee-earners.
Role ResponsibilitiesManaging and maintaining Internal Know-How
- Assisting generally in the organisation and maintenance of the Know-How workspaces in the document management system. This will include, reviewing the suitability of materials submitted by fee-earners, profiling the information so that it is easily searchable and ensuring the workspaces remain up to date and fit for purpose.
- Generally assisting in the Know-How team's efforts to expand the contribution to and use of Know-How within the firm.
- Acting as a sounding board for fee earners looking for ideas about how to solve legal problems or starting points for research.
- Assisting with the preparation of presentations, including carrying out research and, if required, helping to prepare content of slides / handouts.
- Assisting in the preparation and review of Know-How materials, including precedents, crib sheets, Q&As, flow charts, checklists and board papers.
- Preparing instructions to Counsel and notes of conferences on issues of broad relevance to the firm.
- Providing client chargeable support to fee earners (when required).
- Carrying out research for fee earners.
- Giving support to the various teams within the firm and to ad hoc groups which arise from time to time to review developments in the law.
- Assisting in the preparation of training courses (both internal and external) and, when required, delivering relevant training courses (for example, on technical legal issues or accessing Know-How generally).
- Attending and participating in internal training sessions (such as weekly training and the junior training programme).
- Attending and participating in external training sessions (where appropriate).
- Assisting in the preparation of client collateral, including Alerts, briefings, Hot Topics etc.
- Drafting and/or reviewing materials for the website, including case summaries and blogs.
- Assisting with the preparation of and/or ghost-writing articles and/or press comment.
- Speaking to the press (when required).
- Helping to collate and prepare responses to public consultations.
- Providing support in relation to tenders.
- Attending client events (when required).
- Keeping up to date with developments affecting the pensions industry (legal and otherwise).
- Assisting the Know-How Partners and helping to discharge the responsibilities of the Know-How team.
