Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated senior nurse to join Integrated Medicine as a band 7 Ward Manager covering our infectious disease ward and running a high consequences infectious diseases department in line HCID requirements.

This position seeks a Senior Nurse with a significant qualification experience to practice autonomously and in collaboration with the team within the infectious diseases service. The post holder will be required to strike an effective balance between management and clinic responsibilities.

You will need to be an innovative individual who possesses excellent communication skills including a non-judgemental attitude. Excellent organisational and leadership skills in addition to possessing the ability to work cohesively within a multi-disciplinary team which is essential.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an inspirational leader equally committed to ensuring the provision of exceptional patient centred care.

This role requires you to be of a good nature, meticulous and patient, whilst being a strong team player able to take accountability.

Training needs will be evaluated and development plans implemented to support you with your own personal and professional development. There are a wide range of learning opportunities including staff management – Roster Skills – Budget/Finance – Patient pathways – and teaching opportunities.

You may also be expected to:

  • To independently undertake nurse in charge shift, looking after acutely ill patients and menatl health patients
  • To manage a clinical caseload working within a multidisciplinary team and lead the development of new ways of working and innovation
  • To be actively involved in the development of the acute assessment unit.

To initiate and undertake clinical audit and improvement plans within the department.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership or Management Course

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Acute medicine/assessment experience at a charge nurse or above
  • In-depth knowledge of acutely ill patients
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Experience of managing, supervising and appraising staff
