About us

Riverlane’s mission is to make quantum computing useful, sooner. From advances in material science to complex chemistry simulation for drug design and discovery, quantum computers will help solve some of the world’s most important challenges.

Riverlane is building the quantum error correction stack, Deltaflow, to make this happen. It’s a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion.

We recently raised $75M in Series C funding to accelerate our cutting-edge R&D in quantum error correction (QEC), and are partnering with many of the world’s leading quantum hardware providers and government agencies to make fault-tolerant quantum computing a reality.

We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast.

About the role

As a Software Engineer at Riverlane, you will help us to develop the world’s first Quantum Error Correction (QEC) stack that will unlock useful quantum computing. This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of Riverlane’s science teams (Decode) that is developing the world’s most advanced decoding algorithms.

These algorithms are the beating heart of the QEC stack and are also used for cutting-edge research. The team is a mix of mathematicians, physicists and engineers, working together on a range of exciting and cutting-edge projects.

As a Software Engineer, you will work in close collaboration with Riverlane’s scientists and hardware engineers to build performant tools for simulation. Your work will be critical in turning cutting-edge ideas into high-quality software that other teams at Riverlane, and beyond, can use to drive their research forward.

What you will do

As a Software Engineer at Riverlane, your work will vary and will include:

  • Developing research ideas and prototypes into correct, maintainable, and fast code.
  • Extending Riverlane’s quantum simulation capabilities.
  • Delivering software implementations of cutting-edge decoding algorithms.
  • Sharing expertise and collaborating with other teams at Riverlane to guide the development of various parts of the QEC stack.

Requirements

What we need
  • MSc in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Proficiency in C++ is essential
  • Experience with collaborative programming
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
  • A passion for learning and curious mindset
  • An interest in quantum computing
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to discuss complex ideas with a variety of audiences, in a clear and simple way
Even better if you have
  • Proficiency with Python
  • Experience of shipping software to users
  • An interest in working in the quantum open-source ecosystem
  • Experience of quantum computing
  • Experience of GPU programming

Benefits

What can you expect from us
  • A comprehensive benefits package that includes an annual bonus plan, private medical insurance, life insurance, and a contributory pension scheme
  • Equity, so that our team can share in the long-term success of Riverlane
  • 28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave
  • A diverse work environment that brings together experts in many fields (including software and hardware development, quantum information theory, physics and maths) and over 20 different nationalities
  • A learning environment that encourages individual, team and company growth and learning, including a regular programme of learning events and training and conference budgets
