A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team at Central & North West London NHS Foundation Trust based in St Pancras Hospital, Camden.
The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical and professional knowledge and skills in both rehabilitation and elderly care healthcare services, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team in an inpatient setting.

Additionally, CNWL Pharmacy will support Pharmacy Technicians with their professional development. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to complete ‘Advanced practice’ (Educational Supervisor, Level 5 Advanced Practice) qualifications.Completion of ‘Foundation Practice’ (ACPT, Medicines Optimisation) qualifications will also be supported, if necessary.

Main duties of the job
You will need to demonstrate a person-centred approach and have effective interpersonal and organisational skills.
You will be responsible for identifying opportunities to engage with patients/carers, confidently complete medicine reconciliation and deliver medication counselling. Additionally, you must be able to organise your workload and uphold standards of pharmacy practice, referring and reporting concerns when appropriate.

Main Responsibilities:
- To confidently use SystmOne and the SystmOne EPMA system, clearly documenting all activity, accurately maintaining and updating patient records.
- To complete accurate and timely medicine reconciliations for the newly admitted inpatients at St Pancras hospital.
- To work with minimal supervision to provide an admission, supply and discharge service to nominated wards. Liaising directly with pharmacists, doctors and nursing staff over clinical issues as appropriate.
- To complete DMS (discharge medicine service) referrals as necessary
- To routinely complete SAM (self-administration of medication) assessments for inpatients at St Pancras hospitaL
Person specification
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria- GPhC recognised combined Pharmacy Technician qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
- Current registration with GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician (Trainee Pharmacy Technicians are encouraged to apply, but must be registered with the GPhC to begin employment)
- (if qualified prior to 2020) Completion of a recognised Medicines Optimisation training course (if qualified prior to 2020) Completion of a recognised Final accuracy checking course
- Current membership to APTUK (association of pharmacy technicians UK)
- Completion of HEE/NHSE approved Practice supervisor course
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria- Liaison within a multidisciplinary team
- Education and training of staff
- Experience of supporting or developing technician services.
- Portfolio demonstrating competency of previous and current pharmacy practice skills, knowledge, and CPD
- Knowledge of drug therapy used in care of elderly wards
- Hospital pharmacy experience
- Experience of wards, counselling patients, checking medicines, medicines reconciliation
- Experience in a supervisory capacity
