We are delighted to advertise an opportunity for the role of Clinical Governance Specialist within the Cancer, Specialist and Clinical Support Services Care Group (CSCS).

The post holder will assist the Clinical Governance Facilitator to develop, monitor and maintain Clinical Governance processes to provide assurance for all areas of clinical governance, including clinical effectiveness, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

This post would ideally suit a dynamic professional who has demonstrable knowledge and experience of patient safety and clinical effectiveness in an acute NHS environment and is able to use their own initiative and have excellent organisational skills.

You should be enthusiastic, proactive, and able to communicate effectively to support the delivery of the governance agenda and committed to delivering excellence in quality, safety, and patient experience.

Based at either York or Scarborough Hospital although some cross site support will be required.

Flexible/reduced hours will be considered in line with business need - role requires minimum 30 hours over four days.

Main duties of the job

In particular, we require the post holder to be able to demonstrate excellent negotiating and influencing skills, attention to detail, proficient use of IT, in particular report writing and presentation skills, management of complex data processes, and the use of all internal and external systems, databases and action logs that will facilitate the efficient management of the Clinical Governance agenda.

Significant, demonstrable experience and knowledge of PSIRF, regulatory compliance, NICE, audit, clinical effectiveness and risk management is required.

The post holder will support the Clinical Governance Facilitator (Manager) to manage the work carried out by the Clinical Governance team and assist the Care Group to develop, monitor and maintain processes to ensure assurance can be provided for all areas of clinical governance.

This post would ideally suit a dynamic, experienced, professionally registered clinician, who has a passion for clinical effectiveness, patient safety and quality of care. You must be able to use your own initiative and have excellent organisational skills.

The post holder should be enthusiastic, proactive, and able to communicate effectively. Experience of line management is preferred.

In particular, we require the post holder to be a team player, work to deadlines and at pace, be able to demonstrate excellent skills in IT and have an understanding of databases and action logs that will facilitate the efficient monitoring of local agendas.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Educated to Degree level and/or equivalent level of experience within a governance, quality or safety environment
  • • Professional Clinical Qualification and Registration with GMC/RNC/GPhC/HCPC
  • • Post Graduate qualification (or equivalent experience) in Risk Management
  • • Minimum three years’ experience working as Band 5 or above.
  • • Patient Safety and Clinical Governance training (PSIRF) or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Process/Project Management training or equivalent experience
  • • Risk management training/education and awareness of the risk assessment process (including RCA)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Demonstrable experience/knowledge of Databases, specifically Excel, MS word etc.
  • • Demonstrable experience/knowledge of NHS Incident Reporting systems and requirements (e.g. DCIQ).
  • • Clear understanding of the role of regulatory organisations within the NHS (inc. CQC)
  • • Quality Improvement and/or Project Management experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience in using Incident reporting systems (e.g. DCIQ)
  • • Experience of dealing with confidential information and sensitive and/or complex situations
  • • Awareness of the PSIRF process
  • • Awareness of Clinical Governance, Clinical Effectiveness, and Patient Safety Agenda within the NHS.
  • • Awareness and understanding of NHSLA standards & assessment process
  • • Awareness of Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment.
