About the Role
Luckley House School is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Financial Controller to join our team. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Operations (DFO), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and compliance of the school.This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of a thriving independent school with a strong Christian ethos and a commitment to academic excellence.
The successful candidate will oversee all financial compliance, controls, audits, and reporting, as well as prepare financial statements. You will work closely with the DFO, Head, and Governors to set long-term financial goals and annual budgets, ensuring the school’s financial operations align with its strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Advise on general financial policy within the school.
- Prepare annual income and expenditure estimates in collaboration with the DFO.
- Monitor income and expenditure against budgets and present regular management reports to the Governing Body.
- Maintain cash flow projections and monitor monthly control accounts.
- Prepare forecasts for the school’s financial performance over a five-year period.
- Ensure compliance with taxation matters, including VAT regulations and Gift Aid.
- Manage financial implications of the school’s charitable status.
- Oversee financial transactions, audits, and accountancy matters.
- Complete statutory filings, including Financial Conduct Authority filings, National Statistics surveys, and Companies House returns.
- Provide financial analysis and advice to support the school’s marketing and development initiatives.
- AAT Level 3 (or equivalent) or above; part/fully qualified in CIMA, ACCA, or ACA.
- At least three years’ experience in financial management.
- Advanced Excel skills, including forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow modelling.
- Proven ability to develop and manage financial systems and procedures.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret management reports and propose solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to various stakeholders.
- Experience in the education or charity sector is desirable.
