Trust Grade ST4-ST7 Trainee Doctor

A full-time post (40 Hours) is available, however the role is available part-time 3 days per week depending on the successful candidate's preference. The post is a 12-month fixed term Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from 06/08/2025 to 04/08/2026.

The post holder will be expected to attend various locations in Kent for meetings, teaching sessions and events but the base of the post can be flexible to suit the appointed candidate.

This post is designed to support ST4-7s who wish to make a commitment to wellbeing in the medical workforce as part of their career. The 12-month ‘out of programme experience’ (OOPE) post, based atKent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust, is aimed at those who wish to build on their personal experiences, promote an organisational working culture that promotes kindness and enables employees to flourish and succeed, undertake a PGCert to develop learning and put this into practice.

The post holder will have a designated educational mentor who will oversee their development as an educator during the placement and co-ordinate opportunities for personal development. A customised programme of training and educational experience will be designed around the needs of the individual.This will be achieved through the work-based project(s) and a bespoke development programme including the Post Graduate Certificate.

The post holder will be part of the Medical Education team and will carry out various projects / roles to support the wellbeing of our doctors.

The role may include:
  • · Working collaboratively across the trust to develop and deliver wellbeing initiatives
  • · Completion of an appropriate PGCert
  • · Develop, Deliver and Evaluate through research, Simulation and Training for psychiatrists
  • · Leading work to improve doctor experience and well-being
  • · Leading or participating in work to support differential attainment
  • · Participating in LFGs and other key forums to champion the rollout of initiatives and gather feedback and understanding of current issues.
  • · Organising and co-ordinating meetings.
  • · Co-ordinating senior and junior leadership projects

Clinical duties

Within the Medical Education department, the candidate will be part of an enthusiastic and dynamic multi-professional team including Consultants, trainees and other clinicians. There can be exposure to (e.g. Older and General Adult patients and Psychiatric Inpatient wards).

Specialist clinics can be accommodated depending on the candidate’s requirements.

Contribution to an out of hours tier 2 on-call rota will be expected for section 12 approved doctors.

This Medical Wellbeing Fellowship Post is being hosted byKent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT) and jointly funded by NHS England working across Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS Deanery). The fellowship role is a position that has been created as a project to improve wellbeing amongst Psychiatry Doctors.

This project will lead to a significant enhancement of the Workforce culture, to help deliver the objectives of the NHS People's Plan and contribute to improved patient outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITY:

The post holder will be part of the Medical Education team and will carry out various projects / roles to support the wellbeing, training and improved experience of our psychiatry doctors.

The post will offer learning opportunities allowing the Fellow to develop insight and capability. Generic professionalism training opportunities will also be provided.

ENVIRONMENT:
  • The post requires frequent and high levels of concentration for checking documents and analysing statistics which includes paying close attention to reports and other data with relation to projects.
  • Driving licence essential:
The post holder is required to be flexible and to travel where necessary across KMPT sites. The post holder may be required to work cross site when required across Kent.

JOB PLAN

A minimum three days non-clinical (60% full time) for fellowship work – leading specified project work, including attendance on identified Postgraduate course, Learning Network attendance and personal study.

Resources

All KMPT Trainee doctors have access to an onsite Doctors resource room with PCs, AV and literature available. All trainees will be provided with details on how to register to our linked NHS library services. Details are provided in induction packs.

Study leave funding is attached for all Locally Employed Doctors in KMPT.
