The Paediatric Clinical Co-Ordinator role is part of our new and innovative Paediatric nursing model which offers a clear, supportive career development plan and recognises the importance of the Child registrant in having a shift Co-Ordinator role on one of our individual base Wards and rotation onto our supernumerary Paediatric Co-Ordinator Rota.

The two elements of this post are as follows:

Ward Co-Ordinator role - the post holder will be based in our Level 2 Paediatric High Dependency area.

Supernumerary Paediatric Band 6 Co-Ordinator - The postholder will lead and support the clinical team through clinical expertise, professional advice, guidance, and education.

Main duties of the job

Ward Co-Ordinator - We are seeking an experienced paediatric nurse who is a motivated and enthusiastic individual with strong communication and organisational skills This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative, dynamic and enthusiastic registered child nurse who is looking to expand their knowledge and experience working with children and young people.

This post is essential to safe and effective running of the ward area as the role entails delivery of direct patient care as well as ensuring that consistently safe and effective care is delivered to patients and their families

You must be able to lead a team, demonstrating excellent organisational and clinical skills. You will need to enjoy leading a team, whilst ensuring the focus is on delivering high quality evidence-based care to the child and family. You will need to actively participate in ensuring the governance agenda is met and that the trust objectives are at the centre of everything you do.

The post holder will provide day to day clinical leadership and management support within their ward and deliver family centered care to their own cohort of patients. The post-holder will be expected to deputise for the department managers as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Supernumerary Paediatric Band 6 Co-ordinator -

The postholder will have senior nurse support on site in hours and can liaise with the Senior Paediatric Nurse on call out of hours. The role will be responsible for the co-ordination and oversight of delivery and implementation of patient care across the entire Paediatric Unit.

The post holder will be responsible for effective handover from Day/Night reporting on patient safety and attending Resuscitation calls, out of hours bed capacity management, safer staffing and provide senior decision making with a clinically operational overview of the Unit.
The post holder may be called upon to manage and support clinical pressures.The post holder will support staff across all inpatient Ward areas 14,15 ,16, and the Paediatric Critical Care Unit. The post holder will be a high profile, visible, accessible, and responsive leader with resource responsibility.

They will be able to make informed decisions within their own specialty and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards and objectives are met.

The post holder will uphold UHCW NHS Trust clinical governance agenda ensuring that the quality of the patient care is central to all relevant systems and processes, able to make an informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice.

In addition to providing exceptional clinical support, the role of the Paediatric Clinical Co-ordinator will include carrying the Paediatric resuscitation Bleep on Late shifts, weekend days / nights.

The Paediatric Clinical Co-ordinator will be responsibility for bed capacity management on late shifts, nights, weekends This element to the role is to co-ordinate and ensure patients are admitted safely and promptly to the paediatric inpatient area and maintain flow from Childrens Emergency Department.

The Paediatric Clinical Co-ordinator will have a high level of Paediatric clinical experience and knowledge gained through registration, continuous professional development together with post registration courses to enable them to be an effective facilitator able to exercise complex levels of judgment and decision-making.

The post holder will provide leadership, management, and direction for all groups of staff including clinical support staff to ensure that education and staff development needs are met within the area for which they are accountable. They will provide evidence-based high quality patient care advice and be visible, accessible, responsive and act as role model for all staff.

As the Paediatric Clinical Co-ordinator on shift, they will be responsible for managing ad hoc situations as they arise in the ward environment that require senior nursing intervention, escalating as appropriate I.e., patient safety incidents, HR related matters, complaints, and staff / parent conflict.

The Paediatric Clinical Co-ordinator will assist in the management of incidents (clinical and non-clinical) reported via the Datix incident management system, investigating, and ensuring robust governance management of incidents, ensuring appropriate feedback and any learning is shared to enable reflection and practice related development takes place.
