The Post holder will be responsible for providing support to the Catering Operations Manager with the strategic direction and day-to-day operational management of patient catering services on all Trust sites where patient catering facilities and services are required.They will assist with the promotion, development and management of the services. They will work through and with others toward the achievement of all performance targets and maintain positive and effective relations with stakeholders.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
The Deputy Catering Operations Manager will provide operational management and support to all users of the Catering service in an efficient, effective, and timely manner whilst leading, motivating and supporting the service in its entirety under the direction of the Catering Operations Manager.The role will deputise for the Catering Operations Manager and will have line management responsibilities. Predominantly the post holder will manage the Trusts offsite kitchen facilities and its staff but will be expected to be involved in operations on the main hospital site and other community locations as needed.
The Catering service at UHPT is a complex and large operation serving over 1000 patients more than 3000 meals with a staff of just under 30 and an annual budget of over £3.5 million.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Food Hygiene Level 3 and willing to complete Level 4 for Advanced Food Safety within 12 months.
- HND or Diploma or similar experience working in a large clinical setting , Catering or large staff management.
- IOSH Managing Safely Level 3
- Level 4 Advanced Food Safety
- ILM Level 5
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria- Specialised proven knowledge of large catering production operations, food safety, cook chill processes, HACCP and dietary requirements.
- Demonstrable record in leading and motivating staff members.
- A broad knowledge of local and national policies and initiatives effecting catering services and food hygiene issues.
- A management role in a Catering Environment and demonstrable experience of managing a significant workforce.
- Use of an electronic catering management system.
- Previous demonstrable experience working in a large clinical setting in a catering role.
