The Health and Wellbeing College offers a range of recovery focused educational courses and resources aimed at supporting people in recognising their potential, through self-management, to deal with the mental and physical health challenges they experience and to achieve the things they want in life.

Role Aim
  • To be the ‘expert by experience’ in the college co-production process; using personal experience of mental health challenges to work alongside ‘experts by expertise’ to collaboratively design and deliver a range of recovery focused learning opportunities for students, with the aim of helping students live a meaningful life.
  • To support and assist with the enrolment process and enable students to choose courses, which suit their own learning goals.
  • To attend any promotional / recruitment / graduation events as required and to promote the role of the peer trainer and / or to support students as necessary.
  • To work at any designated campus site, or any other designated area, as required, to meet service need.
Main duties of the job

  • Using lived experience appropriately in the classroom and being mindful of professional boundaries.
  • To ensure quality standards are adhered to at all times and service protocols and guidelines are followed.
  • To keep up with any changes or developments regarding the peer trainer role locally or nationally.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Level 3 certificate in Peer Support work or willingness to work towards. GCSE standard equivalent in English • GCSE standard equivalent in English.
Desirable criteria
  • • Teaching / Educational Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience leading to understanding of mental health challenges.
  • Experience of smart goal setting.
  • Experience of co facilitating recovery focused teaching and learning

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Knowledge and understanding of co-facilitation and co-production of recovery focused teaching and learning
  • Knowledge and understanding of using lived experience to safely and effectively to support recovery
  • Knowledge and understanding of recovery principles and the Recovery College service Model
  • Knowledge and understanding of wellness plans as a tool to for resilience and wellbeing
  • Knowledge and understanding of data protection, confidentiality and safeguarding.

Skills/Abilities

  • • Teaching and Learning Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to share lived experience safety and effectively in a way that is relevant and pertinent to learning outcome and objectives
  • Self-motivated, conscientious, flexible adaptable and able to work on own initiative

  • Good organisational, time management skills and the ability to manage stress, work under pressure, plan and prioritise own workload

Work Related Circumstances

Essential criteria
  • • Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs
  • Willing to carry out all duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the Trust’s Equal Opportunities and Equality and Diversity policies
  • Appointments to regulated and controlled activities require an enhanced DBS disclosure.
