This is an exciting opportunity for a suitable candidate to apply for a specialised gynaecological pathology position at Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL) as a specialist doctor for 1 year, which is part of Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust.

The specialist teams at LCL are well established and successful tertiary referral centres with regional and national repute. The cellular pathology service is the specialist laboratory hubs of the Cheshire and Merseyside cellular pathology network, is the main training centre for cellular pathology trainees and has strong academic links with University of Liverpool.

The service has recently moved to purpose built new laboratory facilities on site at the Royal Liverpool Hospital and full roll out of digital pathology makes this the perfect time to be joining our dynamic and expanding department.

Main duties of the job

The appointees will have a significant commitment to the gynaecological pathology specialist team, where close collaboration exists between clinicians and pathologists. Both established pathologists and newly qualified trainees are encouraged to apply if they are looking to develop their careers by joining respected and experienced teams and subspecialising in a friendly and stimulating environment.

The successful applicant will be involved in the whole range of diagnostic work for the respective subspecialty and will also have an opportunity to contribute to teaching and training of junior medical staff and biomedical scientists.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full registration (and with licence to practice)
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degrees relevant to post
  • Track record of publications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Shall have completed a minimum of 12 years’ medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years’
  • Evidence of involvement in clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of special expertise or interest in Ophthalmic, Urological and Molecular Pathology
  • Evidence of research and publications in relevant subjects
  • Recognised management and leadership courses
