We have an exciting opportunity to join the pharmacy cancer services team as a Pharmacy Chemotherapy Co-ordinator. We are looking for someone who is self-driven, extremely organised, has excellent communication and interpersonal skills who is confident to communicate with a variety of healthcare colleagues.

You will be based in our busy pharmacy satellite unit in the Arden Cancer Centre at the University Hospital in Coventry. You will play a critical role in supporting the efficient delivery of the pharmacy cancer service to patients receiving chemotherapy.

Applicants should be able to work with minimal supervision and possess organisational skills to manage their own workload to meet tight deadlines. You must be flexible and adaptable to change and able to manage interruptions and distractions due to telephone calls and requests for help from patients and work colleagues.

Applicants must also have good computer skills and be able to work well under pressure. Parts of this job are physically demanding and so it is essential that you are physically fit.

You must be willing to learn and take responsibility, working well within a diverse team consisting of Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacists. You will also be expected to develop good working relationships with other departments within the Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The Pharmacy Chemotherapy Co-ordinator is a member of the pharmacy cancer services team and plays a critical role in supporting the efficient delivery of the Pharmacy Cancer Service to patients receiving chemotherapy. This role involves a wide range of organisational, communication and administrative tasks to ensure seamless management of chemotherapy prescriptions, patient appointments, and pharmacy-related enquiries.

The successful candidate will collaborate with various stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, and pharmacy team members to ensure the smooth delivery of chemotherapy services.

Whilst this post would particularly suit someone with healthcare experience either in a pharmacy role or an administration role, full training will be provided. Please see the job description and person specification for further details.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Accurately print chemotherapy prescriptions (using the electronic prescribing system MOSAIQ), ensuring all relevant details are complete and correct.
  • Download, organise, and maintain patient appointment reports, ensuring accessibility for the chemotherapy verification team.
  • Track all prescriptions onto the Prescription Tracking System and monitor patient appointments daily, ensuring accurate scheduling, follow-up, and coordination.
  • Manage and file patient prescription records, ensuring they are current and compliant with healthcare regulations.
  • Liaise with the aseptic unit co-ordinator to ensure that all prescriptions are available.
  • Liaise with the Chemotherapy Day Units to plan the dispensing of chemotherapy for the week ahead with the Advanced Specialist Technician, Cancer Services and chemotherapy verification pharmacists.
  • Work with minimal supervision to manage own workload to meet deadlines and use own initiative to prioritise and organise work.
