Suffolk Early Intervention CAMHS is looking to recruit Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, or Therapists to join us as Band 6 Primary Care Mental Health Worker (PMHW) in our Under 18 Wellbeing team on a part time basis.

It is an exciting time to join our service as we make the transition to a place-based approach (3 locality teams – East, Central and West Suffolk) working closely with partners across education, health, and social care.

The roles will be based in our East and Central localities.

Main duties of the job

The PMHW is a diverse and interesting role, working holistically within an MDT, alongside Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners (CWP), Psychological Therapists and Counsellors. PMHWs:

  • Offer consultation and training for schools and professionals
  • Facilitate groups for parents and support delivery of therapeutic groups for children and young people
  • Present webinars on children’s mental health
  • Undertake assessments and direct work with children, young people, and families, managing a caseload

This role provides you with many opportunities for learning about wider mental health issues for children, young and families and service pathways. You will need to have a good understanding of mental health difficulties, assessment, theoretical knowledge, and a range of therapeutic interventions.

During induction, you will shadow colleagues undertaking assessments, facilitating groups, and providing consultation to schools and other agencies and professionals.

Training and support will be provided to gain expertise in delivering an early intervention approach. You will also benefit from regular clinical and management supervision and in-house training on CBT and Systemic approaches.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will work in collaboration with colleagues from health, education, social care teams, youth offending and the voluntary sector and this could include joint assessments with other professionals.

This post requires a core profession of: Nurse, Social Worker, Health Visitor or Occupational Therapist.

These roles will be based in Suffolk in our East and Central Localities – you will be the named Primary Mental Health Worker for a group of schools within your locality. There is a need to travel across Suffolk for meetings and training.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate professional qualification e.g.; Registered Nurse on Parts 1, 3, 5 or 13 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register; Social Worker; Occupational therapist or other relevant professional qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience within Specialist CAMHS setting
  • Clinical supervisory experience and willingness to provide clinical supervision.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team Working in a person centred therapeutic organisation

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, child and adolescent mental health disorders and knowledge of specialist therapeutic interventions within the CAMHS speciality.
  • Awareness of personal and professional responsibilities in regards to child protection and can demonstrate an understanding of child protection procedures and practice guidelines.
