[ref. u97909204] Clerk to the Board of Governors
The governors of Selby High School are looking to appoint a well-organised and self-motivated Clerk to the Board of Governors. Selby High School is a successful 11 to 16 school with an experienced and committed governing body.
Reporting to the Chair of Governors and the school’s Principal, the Clerk will be responsible for the full range of duties to ensure the effective administration of the governing body, including preparing agendas, taking and distributing minutes, keeping detailed records, and ensuring policies are reviewed in line with the schedule.The Clerk will also provide advice to the board on governance, constitutional and procedural matters. Excellent organisational, communication and ICT skills are essential for this role.
There are six full governing body meetings a year, and three finance committee meetings. In addition, the clerk is responsible for all governors’ panel meetings, including exclusion hearings.
Meetings are held in term time. Full governing board meetings and committee meetings are held in-person with a 5.30pm start and lasting up to 2.5 hours. Half-termly meetings take place between the principal, the chair and the clerk. The clerk is responsible for setting meetings up, including working with the committee chairs to set the agendas.The Clerk is also required to take minutes at ad hoc meetings, such as exclusion panels.
The clerk is expected to attend all relevant training events and briefings, including training provided by NYC.
