Home, a place where you belong

We have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our team here at The Copeland Move On service at Whitehaven, our new supported accommodation service.
We’ve been open just over two years now and it is fantastic to see the difference we are making to our customers lives on a daily basis.
If you are someone who really cares about people; you are someone who is willing to go the extra mile to support someone to achieve something big or small; you’re tenacious; you’re someone that wants to give people a chance to be the best they can possibly be.

If this sounds like you, then this may just be the role for you.

Typical day as a Support Worker
  • Assisting customers with practical, daily living tasks to develop their independence, helping them to achieve the goals, aspirations and outcomes documented in their support plans.
  • Running customer activities in the service, encouraging customers to interact with other customers and build the skills they need to achieve independence.
  • You will support customers to access external groups and agencies to build up their own support networks for when they are ready to move into independent accommodation.
  • You would be supporting customers to build the skills they need to maintain permanent independent accommodation. This might be things like budgeting, paying bills, setting up utilities, ensuring their property is clean and tidy, cooking good healthy meals.
  • Liaising with external agencies and brining those agencies around the table to provide the support your customers need to hit their goals.
  • Working with customers to secure permanent accommodation.
Did I mention you would be working for one of the “Top Ten Great Places to Work” in the UK?
You have
  • You need to be passionate about supporting people to achieve their full potential.
  • You need to be someone who is tenacious. Thing’s won’t always go right but you will be able to pull it all back together and get things back on track.
  • You will be empathetic. You will understand where people are in their lives and adapt your approach to support them.
  • You need to be someone who gets a buzz from seeing someone achieve something they have been working towards, no matter how small.
  • You will be someone who is able to work with other agencies and pull them in to support your customers to be their best.
  • If you have worked in support, care or housing before – that’d be great. But it’s the people skills we are looking for. We can teach you the rest so do not let that put you off.
  • You’ll need an Enhanced DBS check done and we pay for that.
Due to limits on our current certificates of sponsorship, we are not able to offer sponsorship to external candidates for this role. This remains under regular review.
Our Team
  • Here at the Copeland Move on Service, we support people who have been homeless or are at risk of homelessness. Each of our customers has their own story and understanding this is key in the role of Support Worker.
  • We have a fab team of 7 support workers and coordinators here at The Copeland Move On service. As well as looking out for our customers, we look out for each other too.
A place where you belong

Great things happen when we can be ourselves at work. We want all our colleagues to be who they truly are here. Our internal diversity networks, peers and allies (Multicultural, LGBTQIA+ and Disability) support us all to be our best. Together we make Home Group a great place to work!
