Job overview
Due to a vacancy arising, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced clinical scientist to become our next head of nuclear medicine physics service. You will lead a team of around 10 clinical scientists, technologists and radiopharmacy technicians.that prides itself with placing the patient at the heart of everything they do. You will also become part of the senior management team for the wider Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department.
You should have proven scientific and leadership skills as you will be responsible for the strategic direction, R&D and day to day delivery of the nuclear medicine physics service. You will be an experienced Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in nuclear medicine physics able to provide highly specialist advice to the Trust utilising your expertise and experience in the resolution of complex or unusual problems in the delivery of the service.Scientific and leadership skills are essential for the safe and effective delivery of procedures to patients.
Your key responsibilities will be to manage staff and resources within the nuclear medicine physics section, to ensure that nuclear medicine procedures are delivered accurately and safely by the provision of excellent nuclear medicine physics support and to develop the nuclear medicine physics service in line with current national developments..
It is also desirable that you should be a certificated (or working towards) Radioactive Waste Adviser.
Main duties of the job
You will oversee and lead the nuclear medicine physics service which is part of a multi disciplinary team (including both Oncology and Radiology).The physics service provides support to the Trusts gamma camera which is operated by staff in the Radiology Department.The service also provides support to the nuclear imaging service at Walsall manor Trust which also has one gamma camera. Scientific support for the sentinel lymph node service is provided for both organisations
The nuclear medicine section in medical physics directly manages the molecular radiotherapy physics services (including I-131 and Ra-223), a number of diagnostic non-imaging procedures and radiopharmacy services.
The post is responsible to the head of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering , and you will be responsible for strategic service development , leadership of the section, manage the budget allocation for pay and non-pay of the section, manage radiation protection within the section.For full details please see the job description and person specification.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Holds valid HCPC registration
- Has valid MPE certification
- Relevant first degree and MSc in radiation physics
- PhD or equivalent evidence of research training
- Holds valid RWA certification or working towards certification
- Diploma level or equivalent in management
Experience/skills
Essential criteria- Extensive experience in nuclear medicine physics
- Proven managerial and leadership skills
- Expert understanding of relevant legislation
- Broad knowledge of radiation and associated areas in wider Medical Physics
Communications
Essential criteria- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
