The post is open to applied psychologists registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist.

This is a great opportunity for a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist to join a passionate and compassionate MDT who support the most vulnerable CYP across Wigan and Bolton to improve their quality of life and keep them in their local community.

The post holder will work intensively with CYP and their carers to ensure trauma informed and child-centred psychological assessment and interventions that support them to stay healthy and safe in the community, avoiding hospital admissions and placement breakdown.

Through multi-agency working you will support the team around the child through team formulation, consultation and training of colleagues in health, education and social care.

You will join a committed team including a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, mental health and LD nurses, OT and Speech and Language Therapy to provide holistic and meaningful assessment for CYP at high risk of placement breakdown or hospital admission.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based in the community working across Wigan and Bolton and will be expected to provide a highly specialist Psychology service to children and young people, their families and carers referred to the Cared For IST as part of a highly specialist MDT.

The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessments and therapeutic intervention for children and young people referred to the service and appropriate training, supervision and consultation to the team and other professionals involved in their care.

The psychologist will form part of a multi-disciplinary team that works closely with the team around a child to prevent admission to hospital or placement breakdown. The psychologist will ensure an attachment informed and trauma aware psychological formulation is developed and shared with everyone involved in their care and contribute to a personalised support plan to reduce restrictive practice and improve the quality of life and outcomes for Cared For children at risk of hospital admission or placement breakdown.

The psychologist will link with other professionals and agencies in the wider system to ensure integrated trauma informed care provision across health, social care, education services to optimise the outcomes for young people and their families.

The post holder may be asked to work in other services within the specialist CAMHS group in response to service or staff changes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder is primarily responsible for providing psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions for CYP who are cared for and at risk of hospital admission and placement breakdown.

The post holder will work closely with colleagues in health and social care to ensure multi-agency working with shared formulations, care and risk planning with the CYP's needs at the centre of all the plans which are developed collaboratively with CYP and their carers.

The post holder will contribute to the supervision and development of other staff.

The post holder will work within the policies, procedures and guidelines of the for Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust

The post holder will plan and organise their work schedule and tasks within the parameters of the Job Plan agreed with the Operational Manager.
