Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic nurse to join our well-established specialist respiratory nurse team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation trust.
The current team provide specialist respiratory care throughout the Bristol site, across inpatient and outpatient services, to patients with both acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
We are seeking a nurse with a good understanding of long-term respiratory conditions, excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously within the supportive environment of a forward thinking and experienced team.
This is a full-time permanent position.
Main duties of the job
As a specialist respiratory nurse, you will be providing holistic care including assessment, planning and treatment as well as advice and support to patients with respiratory conditions. You will also act as a resource to hospital staff and other healthcare professionals requiring specialist input.You will work alongside the established team to enhance your current level of practice whilst supporting you to develop your confidence and ability to independently review patients and make decisions.

Knowledge
Essential criteria- Extensive years post registration experience
- Relevant post registration experience, at Band 6 or above, in respiratory nursing
- Experience of teaching
- In-depth specialist experience
- Leadership and management experience
- Experience of multi-professional working
- Evidence of advanced communications skills
- Ability to lead and influence change
- Research qualification
- Basic understanding of the use of Home ventilation CPAP / NIV
- Previous experience of working as a clinical nurse specialist
- Experience of audit and research
Qualifications
Essential criteria- Registered General Nurse
- First level degree in related subject.
- Evidence of Masters level learning or prepared to work towards
- Recognised Qualification in Respiratory Nursing(Asthma/COPD Diploma or higher)
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Recognised teaching qualification or prepared to work towards
- Good understanding of Spirometry and Interpretation
- Physical Assessment Clinical Reasoning Course at Degree Level
- Non-medical prescribing
- ARTP qualification in spirometry
