We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, and ambitious Pharmacy Assistant to join our dynamic Team. The post holder must be keen to learn and develop with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This post is based at Newham University Hospital.
At Barts Health we take pride in developing our staff to progress. Within the Pharmacy department we offer several opportunities to do this. You will participate in training initiatives to meet both individual and departmental goals. As a Band 2 Pharmacy Assistant who holds a NVQ Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy services, you will have the opportunity to be enrolled on HEE Medicine Optimisation Course to undertake Transcription of Medicines and POD checking at Ward level.

Main duties of the job- Undertake the dispensing of medicines for individual patients against prescriptions. This will involve generating labels for medicines and selecting the correct medication.
- Be involved in accurate stock control on the wards and in the department.
- Be responsible for replenishing sundry items e.g. bottles, bags, labels and other items as required.
- Managing workload to ensure KPIs are being met and escalating any deviations to the senior pharmacy technician and/or dispensary manager.
- Participate in returning, recycling and disposing of patients’ medication that is no longer required.
- Complete Datix reports
- Undertake the bulk supply of medicines to wards and departments (top-up).
- Stock checking and supporting stock control
- Maintain ward stock and complete regular expiry date checks
- Filling the stock order
- Receive medicines from wholesalers and check deliveries against orders
