Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency Surgery and Elective Care Business unit on Ward 1 at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH).

Ward 1 is a 30 bed emergency trauma orthopaedic ward which is primarily responsible for trauma orthopaedic admissions originating in the Emergency department, transfers from outpatient clinics, other wards at NSECH and any other wards within the trust where patients require a specialist Orthopaedic review which requires surgical intervention or care.

High risk elective orthopaedic surgery is also carried out on this site.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic housekeeper who wants to work as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team striving to deliver high standards of care. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and gain valuable experience within our departments.

Main duties of the job

Work under supervision of the Ward Manager/Qualified Nurse as part of the ward team to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • To ensure the daily upkeep, cleanliness and maintenance of the ward environment to the highest possible standards.
  • To assist in ensuring a clean, safe and hygienic ward environment, completing quality checks on all patient areas, trolleys and equipment on a daily basis.
  • To monitor stock levels, general ward cleaning consumables, stationary and store supplies appropriately on the ward.
  • To requisition minor maintenance repairs.
  • To assist patients with meals and assistance with feeding patients where appropriate.
  • Complete and submit departmental infection control Audits.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 1 or 2 in direct care / hospital cleaning or proof of equivalent experience
  • Experience of dealing with administrative duties
  • Experience in a care setting
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ in customer care
  • Basic IT skills
