Head of Year and Subject Teacher (preferably Maths or Technology)
Step into a leadership role that combines pastoral care with subject expertise in Maths or Technology, driving both academic and personal growth, whilst inspiring young minds
This is an incredible opportunity to further impact the lives of our students and contribute meaningfully to our community. At KA Brune Park, we believe that true growth happens when we step forward and embrace new challenges. If you are passionate about nurturing potential, driving positive change, and embodying our shared values of collective responsibility and supportive challenge, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.Your experience, vision, and dedication could be exactly what we need to continue building an environment where every student—and every colleague—thrives.
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, driven and committed Head of Year and subject teacher who is enthusiastic, conscientious and self-motivated to join our school community. In addition to a teaching timetable, the successful candidate will lead and manage a year group, support and challenge students to continually improve in all aspects of daily school life.
The role of head of year can be challenging and emotionally draining. You are a teacher, unofficial counsellor, mentor, social worker, family support worker, behaviour analyst, example setter, trainer, staff coach and trouble-shooter – but the rewards are knowing you have made a change in breaking down barriers to ensure your pupils get a fair chance at a good education. You will get to learn all about your pupils, to nurture, encourage positive behaviour and support their mental wellbeing, all of this working with other colleagues, external agencies and with the students themselves.
When you know your pupils well, you will understand why they act the way they do. You can prepare for tough days, know the right things to say at the right time and know when they need to be held to a higher standard because you know them well enough to know it’s not too much.
- The secret to a good head of year is relationships, relationships, relationships
- Communicates expectations and holds pupils to them – but knows them well enough to know when they need a different approach.
- Justifies decisions to sometimes sceptical staff whilst not breaking confidentiality about the struggles of the most vulnerable individuals.
- Strategically picks battles.
- Gives the same warmth and empathy to the inconsolable child, whether 9 am on a Monday or 3 pm on a Friday.
- Is an expert in making the most of every second.
- Is prepared to delegate to their form tutors, class teachers and other key staff who are actively involved in working with the pupils
You will be pivotal in driving this ethos throughout the school, holding to account subject leads and class teachers with their teaching, expectations, engagement and outcomes for the youngsters in your year group.
You will need to be resilient, able to work closely with a team and be independently driven. You will be a key member of the phase’s middle leadership being part of the King’s Group Academies vision and mission for improving outcomes and life chances of all young people.
You will be:
- A qualified Teacher with the highest expectations
- Enthusiastic and passionate about education
- Committed to raising standards and achieving excellent outcomes for all students
- An excellent communicator with interpersonal skills
- Able to use your ability to build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues
- Exceptional professional development opportunities
- Collaborative and supportive working environment
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- Be part of a growing and ambitious school within a successful academy trust
- Consideration for your well-being
