A Rare Opportunity to Join a Unique School

The Elizabethan Academy is an oversubscribed and highly popular 11–19 stand-alone academy with a fantastic reputation for supporting all students and staff in equal measure. We recognise that our staff are our most important asset and are committed to protecting their wellbeing while providing high-quality training and development opportunities.

We are immensely proud to be an outward-facing and innovative stand-alone academy. Teachers are given the freedom to be creative in their pedagogy while ensuring that every child receives the high-quality education they deserve. We also recognise the value of subject expertise and place strong emphasis on this through our tailored CPD programme.

We believe that teachers learn even more from observing others than from being observed themselves, and we have a strong commitment to coaching as a tool for professional growth.

This is an exciting time to join the Academy. Under the direction of a new Principal, a number of positive changes have already been implemented, with more planned in the near future to support our journey toward excellence.

Why Join Us?
  • Extensive Professional Development – Structured career progression, leadership training, secondment opportunities, coaching, mentoring, and support for staff undertaking NPQs.
  • A Culture of Collaboration and Coaching – Coaching is at the heart of our approach to developing teachers at every stage of their career.
  • Wellbeing and Staff Support – We are proud to be a Brilliant School and holders of the Wellbeing Award for Schools.
  • A Commitment to Excellence – Our most recent OFSTED inspection (February 2024) judged the academy as Good with many outstanding features.
  • A Fully Inclusive Environment – We foster a welcoming and diverse community where everyone feels valued.
  • Modern Facilities – Staff and students benefit from excellent resources in our purpose-built Design and Technology and STEM facilities.

The Role: Teacher of Design Technology

We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Teacher of Design & Technology to join our supportive, forward-thinking team. This role involves:

  • Teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with the potential for Key Stage 5 if suitably qualified).
  • Delivering creative, enquiry-based D&T lessons that inspire and challenge.
  • Contributing to departmental curriculum development and extra-curricular design projects (e.g., robotics clubs, product-design competitions).

Product design or engineering specialisms are strongly desirable, although all D&T backgrounds are welcome. Whether you’re an Early Career Teacher or an experienced practitioner, you’ll find a vibrant and ambitious department ready to support your professional growth.

Our Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Embrace our core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience
  • Be passionate about teaching technology and committed to inspiring curiosity and achievement in all students
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of subject knowledge and pedagogy
  • Have a clear focus on securing excellent outcomes for young people
  • Be a proactive and positive contributor to our wider school life — whether as a Form Tutor, through clubs and enrichment, or in wider curriculum innovation

Join Us

We are extremely proud of our school and warmly encourage prospective candidates to visit us. Those who do often leave inspired by our welcoming community, supportive environment, and commitment to excellence.
