We are looking for a Porter to join our team here at The Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Main duties of the job
The aim of the role is to support the clinical teams in maintaining the optimum environment for our patients. The main duties are to support patient movement, removal and disposal of waste, handling of medical gases.

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder is required to undertake routine portering activities activities, which are task driven, and which require a basic level of competence within a limited amount of time under the direction of the Patient Environment Services at One Lancashire and South Cumbria.These need to be in line with the National Cleaning Standards, department standing Operational Procedures and Trust Policies. To ensure a timely and efficient patient movement whilst providing excellent levels of customer care.

Educations and Qualifications
Essential criteria- Driving Licence
- Basic Numeracy and Literacy Skills
- Certificate in Health and Safety
Expierence
Essential criteria- Previous operational manual handling experience
- Knowledge of cleaning in a large setting or Health Care environment
Skills, Ability and Knowledge
Essential criteria- Ability to deal with information sensitively and confidentially
- Clean smart appearance.
- Deal with a diverse range of people face to face
- Deal with internal and external communication using both verbal and written material
- Able to communicate within a team and provide feedback to colleagues and line managers
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria- Be able to demonstrate and address manual handling assessments on the safe transportation of light and medium items.
- Ability to travel between the Trusts sites as required.
- To demonstrate flexibility in approach to work patterns
- Deal with day to day workloads linked to hygiene procedures and able to follow written schedules
- Reporting equipment breakdown and faults on work equipment to supervisors.
- Have the abilities in listening, sharing and receiving support and advice. Able to complete records including timesheets and departments documentation

- Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.

Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS)
