About the Technical Manager role:

The Technical Manager is responsible for managing a team of six technicians and providing technical services and support for displays projects, special exhibitions, installations, and audiovisual systems, including the maintenance of interactive exhibits.

This role ensures that museum visitors experience the highest quality of engagement and enjoyment across all National Museums Scotland sites.

As our Technical Manager at National Museums Scotland you will:

Be responsible for the overall development and delivery of the displays maintenance programme

Line manage a team of six technicians

Manage overall departmental priorities for the technical team and be the main point of contact for all requests for technical support or advice to ensure the team are deployed effectively and efficiently for National Museums Scotland, including supporting the efficient running of the Auditorium and AV support for events

Devise and lead displays project teams comprised of internal staff and contractors, ensuring National Museums Scotland’s project methodology is used effectively to deliver on time, to budget and to agreed quality standards

Be responsible for tendering, procurement and appointment process for commissioning of external services in line with National Museums Scotland’s financial procedures

Manage project and operational budgets effectively in accordance with National Museums Scotland’s financial procedures.

Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Technical Manager:

Significant experience working as part of a technical team in a museum, visitor attraction or heritage environment
Well-developed project management skills, with the ability to facilitate and monitor project processes and procedures, ensuring progress against key milestones
Proven relevant work experience of managing internal and external project teams and display production and installation

Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams

Good knowledge of health and safety legislation in relation to museum design and installation (including Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).
